| I've always read that the average human can hear up to 20k hertz. So when I choose a radio or speakers I always look at that, but what I found from this test, is that I can't hear above 15k hz. And I know my speakers were playing it, cause my 8-year old daughter could hear up to 20khz, but I couldnt.
Try it out, post your range.

| In my early 20's I could hear 19.2 KHz, but I haven't checked it since. One of the latest tricks that teens are using, though, is a ringtone for their cellphones that they can hear, but their parents and teachers cannot... I guess we should be happy that they're putting some of their science studies to use. (I also doubt that my monitor speakers have enough response to administer the test properly...) .

| If I put my ear right next to the speaker, I can hear up to 20khz, but it's much quieter than the lower ones. | |

| I don't want to know - too much hearing damage from shooting guns without hearing protection as a child. | |

| Hmm, I can't hear any above 12. Could be my cheap speakers, partly. But I also had a lot of loud noise exposure growing up. In a bar or restaurant, I have a hard time hearing table conversations in a noisy place. | |

| We lose hearing as we age. That is why kids can hear higher. Also the long term exposure to higher noise levels can cause hearing to fail. That is why factory workers use ear plugs and get tested twice a year.
If the test above is using the speakers on your computer, they may not be capable of reproducing the 20-22k range and instead put out something less than that while trying.

Choosing speakers based on Frequency range?

My 11 yr old daughter had to cover her ears when I played the level 12 file at a volume level that sounded perfectly normal to me. She could hear 18 easily, didn't try anything higher. I suffer from "too much 70's ROCK syndrome..."

| 15KHZ for me Part of it is that I did not listen to headphones when I was a kid (due to a medical procedure) so it could be that my hearing is slightly better than some one who is my age | |
