- Wow. What a score. Tell me, Randall, is a guy who already owns 4 Rivieras any more likely to get a deal like that vs. the rest of us? I mean, the seller had to know the car is going to a good home!
Actually/unfortunately this put me at seven Rivieras now ... way too many! The last two have kind of been because the owners figured I would give their Riv a good home, AND this one was because the only other person that had called or shown any interest was from TX and as I said the man’s niece was ready to clean-up his estate and get back home so she was ready to sell, not just deal. Not sure if I would call it being in the right place at the right time or not … because now the ’93 I just bought is sitting outside until I can figure out a place to get it into, and that one has been garage kept its whole life too!

- Beautiful Car. Looks like Azure Blue. In 1970, that was a Riviera only color. Not sure if it carried the same name in 1972. i have a friend in my GS club that has a 70 GS 455 that was Special order painted that color.
That looks like a pretty close match! I am going to look around for the service parts tag when I get home and see if I can find the paint code. It doesn't really matter as I have been reminded "any good paint shop can match it", which I'm sure is true; I would just like to know what it is/was called.
Get me the paint code and I'll tell you what the color was called. The paint code will be on the cowl tag under the hood.
Might be Crystal Blue, code 21. http://www.buicks.net/years/72/72paint.html I have already been there and looked, and several other Buick/Riviera sites. The information I have so far is that it wasn't a Buick color, may have been a Chevy or Corvette color, OR it may have been the color of some lady's curtains! It might have even been a fan of UNC and that is why they picked blue and white? Here is a picture of the cowl tag, it shows a code "661", and that doesn't cross over to anything I've found so far. What I meant by the "Service Parts Tag", if it has one and I can find it, it might give me the "WA" code that paint shops use for a starting point for paint. Thanks for the link and if you can identify that 661 I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the link and if you can identify that 661 I would appreciate it. I'm going to go over to www.V8Buick.com, and ask there. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?244735-1972-Riviera-What-color-is-this&p=2000838#post2000838 Thanks for your efforts. If I can't find anything out from the codes I'll probably just take it somewhere and see what they can tell me like the posts on the v8buick forum suggested.

| You may want to try contacting the Alfred P. Sloan Museum. | |

| I had the fleet out a while back and figured I would up-date my sig pic … and thought I would get all of my showrooms together at the same time just for the hell-of-it. Hope it doesn’t offend anyone! | |

| I forgot to add this link when I up-dated my signature ...

If the link works, I was able to check the posi in the '72 GS and it works as advertised! I haven't tuned it up or anything yet "but" it does do what it is supposed to do, and that is a good thing.

I finally bit the bullet and sent my request to the Sloan/Longway, the new name for the Sloan Museum, and received the results today. I had called them prior to sending the request and they said they were not sure they could help but would give it a try. Well, even with all the information they have they were not able to tell me the "name" of the color on this Riv! And, there were two other codes on the "Buick Motor Division microfilm" that didn't match the "wholesale car order" form that they included with the information they sent. They did say that they contacted several "experts" with the BCA and they did not know either, they said possibly there was a misprint on the microfilm and the paint code "might" be "Q" (Cortez Gold), which is obviously not correct. On a positive note, they said "While I suspect this may be a very interesting find, I am not able to verify much about the car.", so they are waiving the $75 fee for the VIN research. So, even though they can't get me the color name, I did find out a "little" bit more about the car than I knew, and it didn't cost anything after all. Just thought I would share, and put it out there again that I am still looking for the name of this paint. PAINT CODE ... 661
