AC charging port on 95 Empty
PostSubject: AC charging port on 95   AC charging port on 95 EmptyWed May 16, 2012 3:00 pm

Have 95 SC and need to charge AC. I do not see the low side connection to hook my gauges to.
Thanks for any help.

It's been a couple of years but I believe it is the one near the wiper motor. Your coupler will only fit one of them.

AC charging port on 95 Empty

Thanks. I see the one by the wiper motor but that is the high pressure line. The high pressure line has two connection ports on it--one of which you could connect the gages. However, in all my years of working on all types of ACs I have never charged them through the high side. In fact it is not possible because as you started to charge the system, the pressure on the line would be greater than what is in the charging can. puzzled

Oh but this is a unique system. You see the large brass fitting between the two ports?. It houses a magic valve that lowers the pressure on the other side. It didn't make sense to me either, but this is how this system works.

Well according to my Mitchell1ondemand it says, "information is not available from manufacturer" rolleyes

I believe it's located on the larger line next to the line with the high sides you speak of. It is just after the 90 degree bend of the firewall. Hope this helps. If not I will get a diagram from GM tomorrow. happy Usually the larger line is the low pressure line which is in most cases a good place to look.

Thanks all, Yes the larger line is always suction because it carries the gas ( which requires more volume) back to the compressor while the high side or liquid line as it is called has liquid refrigerant which boils off in the evaporator as it goes through a expansion valve, cap tube or an orfice which in turns causes a pressure differential. As the refrigerant boils off it is similar to when you put water on your skin in hot weaher and the evporation creates cooling.

Have worked on Ac or refrigeratuion system all the way to units capable to provide 100s of tons of cooling.
Whats bad, I know I charged before when I R&R engine---must have something to do with Age> shocked
