Stock, the N/A Riv can get 30+ MPG on the highway. The SC runs around 27. There is some sample variation due to using synth oil or more efficient replacement tires and such. Rivs don't get such great city mileage in practice. Given the size of the car and the technology of the engine (a superb pushrod engine) the mileage is very decent. In top shape, stock, you should be able to do 0-60 in around 7 seconds +/- 0.2 sec.
You will have to look into whether gear sets from a different transmission of the same series will fit your car, I really don't know.
You might want to look at threads on this site from some years back and trace the moderator's (Aaron) mods.
It might be more productive to look into boosting engine power. the 4T65E is a good slushbox but it is still a slushbox.
