How do I get the boost bypass butterfly out so I can remove that external rod so I can polish around it easier?
Take the screws out, slide the plate out. Gently pull the lever part out. It will slide out of the bearings. Stuff the bearings with some paper towel or sometime to keep the chips out, you don't want to try finding and pressing in new ones. _________________

That's a negative Ghost Rider. I still have it. Karma is dead on. You have to take that plate off before you can slide the rod out.

| All the tiny bits should be here Friday. Getting all the cracks then time to blend and then finally polish. Thanks for the tip, Scott. I didnt even realize those were casting plugs until you said something. I hacked them off. Every gram counts with the fat ass fatty, right? Havent even started the N* yet.. Need to get that rolling asap. I got the bypass butterfly out today. I found one of the screws somewhat stripped and I finished it off. I had to dremel the philips into a straight edge to get the cursed thing out. Anything special about these screws? They have pinched ends. Never seen that before. | |

| They pinch the ends so that the screws can't back themselves out. Nobody wants a metal plate in their engine!
Yw on the casting lumps. Looks wayyyyy better with them gone.

Maybe Karma can chime in on that one. Throttle plate screw? Technically, it is just a baby throttle plate. I just looked at a TB from a new Terrain (heavy tech is pulling the engine). They redesigned the rod. They don't have those screws anymore, but the holes in the rod are oblong instead. Actually, I just looked at my old S/C here on the bench. That rod/plate is intact. You want me to yank the screws and send 'em to ya? As long as they're the same from a Gen III to a Gen V....

Screws should all be the same. Â Cutting a slot is common too, since the end crimp makes them so tight. Â I always just reuse the screws and add red thread locker. But it would depend on how stripped the were when you removed them. _________________

| Thanks, Andrew. one screw is fine. The other one was toasted. I reckon I will take one out of the gen 3 when it comes off. I started polishing the northstar throttle body today after working on the gen V for a bit. I am just able to see the finish line on the blower. At first, progress was fast but as I am just now seeing the end, the job is becoming quite arduous. I am switching between the smallest wire dremel bits I can find for the corners and sand paper to blend it all together. The little cracks and corners are challenging and everytime you think you get something right another pit shows its face. Scott, I commend you on your finished product. Well done. Anyone who does this has to be at least a little bit crazy. I am currently on 180 grit and moving higher until its buff time. I didnt take any pictures from yesterday or today but I will get one after next session. I dont know the exact times but I feel like i've dumped a good amount of hours into this thing. Here's a pic from a few days ago when I held it above the gen 3 to make sure its going to fit with clearance from the alternator. Ive found a few places on the net that say 99+ alternators and brackets will clear it and I wanted to make sure. Looks like I will have plenty of room to drop this bad boy in. | |

| Yeah it really is never-ending it seems like. I knew from p&p'ing everything on the inside of the blower/lim/tb that I'd never try doing the outside of a blower case. haha You need to be high or have lots of shows to watch or something. I got through all the seasons of dexter while doing my blower and lim. I did it largely by hand. Also noticed that coarse paper pretty quickly turns into pretty good fine stuff after wearing away. I was constantly starting out to do heavier material removal and then I kind of found myself just polishing. Slowed me down big time I'm sure. Try to avoid that. Anyway lookin good dude! | |

| Thank you. Â for sure. I am working on a mount for the stereo relocation. going to make a bracket and use the existing hole on one of the braces in the center console. I will get some pics of that soon. Also going to make a mount for the wideband and Hpt module. | |

Yeah, I love it in that spot. The only drinks I have in my car are usually gallon jugs of water behind the front seats. Strict drink policy in the Riv I've had the receiver down there for a while but just now giving it proper mounting. I'm going to have a plate to mount the tuner modules to also. receiver mount. based on a very similar bolt up design i used on my S4 galaxy on the Vmax.

medium mount. it will be attached to the bracket in the back of the console. I used to have it just laying back there. So kind of a step up.

| Charlie if you don't mind, could you give me a quick explanation as to what that HPT thingy is there? I can't say I've ever heard of it and I'm having a hard time seeing what it is in the picture. | |

I'll save you chuck.... It's the Interface for his HPT tuner. Much like my DHP, only HPT. I'm guessing he's just mounting somewhere so that he can easily plug into it at any time.

| I like the idea of a soft mount. I just have mine tucked behind the front of the center console. It stayed there without budging during the autocross so I'm fine with it, plus it keeps the cable out of the way of the pedals. | |
