| I have a 95 supercharged Riviera and I have gotten a wealth of information from this site. Unfortunately, I could not find anything about by current problem. The bolt that holds the dual idler pulley to the engine broke off. I have had a couple of mechanics out to look at it and they all said it is not enough room to drill the bolt out and I will have to remove the entire bracket. My first question is, is it difficult to remove the entire bracket? It looks like it runs behind the power steering pump but I am not sure. Is it an easy task or should I hire a mechanic to remove it? Thanks! | |

| Would a right angle drill work to drill a pilot hole in the stub for an ez-out? I don't have a 95 so I don't know.

As for difficulty, we often confuse "tedious" and "time consuming" with "difficult." You might want to look at the R&R instructions in a factory service manual, then decide if it's too much of a job for you.
I would be kind-of wondering why the bolt broke in the first place. | |

I'm thinking someone turned it the wrong way thinking they were loosening it, and it broke off. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| I tried a right angle drill but the drill bit is still too long. The bolt is regular thread. I replaced the pulley this past summer and it was regular thread. | |

| I don't have a Series I. I tried to find a picture so I could see the "dual idler" you are talking about. I think it's a tensioner assembly. If I am correct - the thing I would do is just replace the assembly. . You can get one from a parts store or if you're tight on cash, a junkyard. I've replaced mine once, there's stuff to remove to get to it but it's not that big a deal. You can look it up and see pictures on RockAuto.Com and then get it from RockAuto or locally.
You might want to check a service manual concerning the difficulty to remove the bracket. I would call it "time consuming" not difficult. But again, I don't have a Series I, maybe someone else will chime in.

| Thanks for the response Albertj but I found out that the series 2 engines do not have the dual idle pulley. Only the series 1. The good thing is our tensioners come off with one bolt! | |

| Okay. I decided to remove the bracket in order to extract the broken bolt. Albertj was dead on. It was a tedious job but not at all difficult. Thanks for the info! I did encounter one problem in the reassembly. The two heater hoses that go into the manifold are leaking coolant now. When I took them off, they just kind of pulled out of their respective holes once I removed the single hold down bolt. When I put them back and tighten the bolt, at least one of them are leaking now. Is there something I am missing? What seals this connection? | |

| Should be O rings. You need to replace them. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Thanks. I'll try that this weekend. I'll just keep topping it off until then. | |
