Noises when turning right Empty
PostSubject: Noises when turning right   Noises when turning right EmptyWed Feb 06, 2013 12:37 pm

Hello,
My 97 Riviera makes two distinct noises when turning right:

- When the steering wheel is being turned to the right while making a turn, I hear a sort of rubbing noise. This stops once the steering wheel stops turning. Nothing obvious rubbing anywhere.

- When applying power while making a right turn (and only right), I hear a sort of humming noise. This goes away when I lift my foot off the accelerator.

Interestingly, my previous Riviera behaved in exactly the same way. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mikel

Could be the left front hub/wheel bearing starting to fail. How many miles on your car? Have the front hubs ever been replaced?

To check: lift front end of car and rock front wheels up & down (12-6 o'clock) if the left wheel has more play, or feels loose, replace the hub.

Buy Timken or AC/Delco quality parts for longest life. Price: around $130 per hub. I would not replace both sides unless they both feel loose. The other side will follow suit, but could be thousands of miles before that time.

Hello,
115K on the car, with original hubs, as far as I know. I will check them for play.
Thank you.
