| So, today was a hot one in Raleigh... mid 90s. My 95 Riviera was sitting for a few hours in the Sun and when I got in and turned on the ignition the climate control was not only reading 104 degrees, but the "104" was flashing. I have never seen it flash before.
Once the car was in motion and the air cooled it down a bit, it went solid 104, then 100 and finally settled on 97.
I checked the owners manual, which didn't mention anything about a maximum outside temp reading, but I'm going to surmise that the maximum reading for the outside air temp is 104, and 105+ will just cause the unit to display a flashing 104. If true, this must be a little annoying for folks who have a 95 and live in hot climates.
Al

| Hmm. I'm pretty sure I've seen higher than 104 before. 109 maybe? But mine was a 98. | |

| You are correct. 104* is the maximum temperature that it can read. It probably flashes to say "holy shit it's hot".
If the temp flashes every second for 100 seconds, then you have a fault. I can't find anything in my Service Information stating that the unit flashes when it hits max temp. All I found is a table with temperature vs resistance for the system, and 104* is the max temperature...

| I've seen 110* on my '98. For some reason though, the temp vs resistance table only goes to 104*. Weird....I wouldn't worry about it until it continuously flashes at you or stops working. | |

| Thanks, keep in mind that like the radio, climate control "center" (and apparently about 100 other things ) .... are different from 96+. I've never noticed if the climate control center in my 95 Roadmaster (same as 96+ Rivieras) is happy above 104F, but the 95 Riviera climate control center looks like it loses its mind over that temp Just thought it was an interesting observation. | |

| HA, ok I think I've led you all astray Referencing Abbadon's post above, I think it is just referencing a fault by flashing. At this point I'm not even sure 104 is now the max! Anyway, I've got the door panels off the car for the moment, and since the passenger temp controls are disconnected, I bet this is why it is flashing. Plus it was flashing at 97 indicated degrees this evening | |

| Proof that it goes higher. It said 110 before the picture was taken. It was friggin' hot today..... | |

| Heh, proof that it goes higher on a 1996+ climate control center ....the 1995 climate control center is different. But I'm sure you are right anyway that even the 1995 unit reads higher than 104 in hindsight. Like I said, I think I was just wrong Here's a photo of a 1995 climate control unit: | |

| My bad, I thought it was just the radio that was different. | |

Unfortunately.... or fortunately if one likes to just be different.... the litany of differences between a 1995 and the rest of the years is lengthy

| Confirmed the "blinking" behaviour BTW. Put the passenger door panel back on, and hence hooked back up the passenger door "comfort controls" and lo-and-behold, the flashing ceased. So that was indeed an error condition indicator, in this case showing a communication failure between the climate control head unit and the passenger controls. It's kind of interestin though, as I thought the passenger control only actuated a damper. So it is curious that it interacts with the climate control head unit directly. Perhaps it only sends commands to the HU which the HU then commands the dampers versus the passenger controls themselves *shrug* Probably so.... Anyway, mystery solved Al | |

| Mine's been blinking again, but now it is because I have the drivers knee bolster out while I repair some of the plastic and run some electrical for the front amp At least it isn't a mystery anymore. The inside temp sensor in the bolster is disconnected, so it blinks to show the error condition, much like before when the passenger door control was off. Al | |

| Mine blinked a couple of times the other day. Hasn't done it since, so hopes are high. | |
