Security system woes? Or did I really run out of gas Empty
PostSubject: Security system woes? Or did I really run out of gas   Security system woes? Or did I really run out of gas EmptyFri Jun 26, 2015 5:44 am

I'll preface this by saying that my gas gauge is definitely not accurate...but it said I had a little over 1/4 tank when this all happened and it usually was only off before by an 1/8 of a tank (1/8 tank = probably empty).

Yesterday driving home from a friend's house I noticed that after several miles of driving my security light was still on. Eventually I lost power and had to coast somewhere safe. Tried restarting car...it ran for a few seconds and sounded horrible, like it was only running on half the cylinders. Long story short I was towed home...walked to the gas station, got gas
, put it in, and after about 6 seconds of cranking it started up. This morning I started it up just fine and drove my 5 minute commute to work. Security light was sold for about a minute while driving then shut off, and I had no other issues. Should I get the security system checked out or did I actually run out of gas? Maybe an intermittent combination of both? Tell me what you think...I'd like to avoid tow bills if I can. smile

And while waiting for the tow I kept trying to start it with no luck. Checked all fuses and relays and everything was fine. Also, the car has been sitting for a month or two before I had started driving it again recently.

I think you ran out of gas. The Security light will cause the car not to start, but I've never seen it stall a car after it's been running for awhile.

That is very good to hear! What would cause the security light to stay on for a long time while driving? I must've been driving ten or so minutes with it on before the break down. First time I ever noticed it doing that.

Pretty sure you ran out of gas. In my old Riv that didn't have a working gas gauge, I just reset my trip meter every time I filled up and was sure not to let it get higher than 250 miles before filling up again. I'd try that method if I were you. Or fix it lol.

Haha I definitely do that too but I guess the accuracy of the gauge is just getting worse. smile

My last car had a remote starter & gave me some difficulty on occasion starting(with the security light on). It never happened while driving though.

Don't know if you have a R.S. installed..
