| It's easier to drop the entire unit then move from there, i think. | |

I did it that way when I changed a Pontiac 6000, I think from a 4cyl to a V6. That was the best way to do that one. I changed the transaxle on a '95 Riv and it was a pain in the ass! Used the tool to hold up the engine and dropped the carriage and transaxle by the book. I'm not sure it would be any easier doing the whole thing on a Riv on not, might be best to pull the engine from the top? I do know there is one of the bell housing bolts that is buried on the back of the engine, got it out OK with a long extension but getting it back in sucked! | |

| I'm probably doing this next year. I've had quite a few engines out of cars, I'd rate this one a 6-7. Not horrible, but not a piece of cake either. The 'bastard bolt' is the last bellhousing bolt you'll get out. Easiest to take off the pass wheel, mud skirts and get a whole lot of extensions to get in there. I'd rate the 4.3 in a 90's 4x4 S-10 a 9. Don't know what would rate a 10... The 455 in our '69 buick is about a 3. We can have that engine out in 3 hours from saying 'go' (too much practice?) | |
