Yeah it sounds loud on the video but really its not that bad. I mean obviously is going to be louder without cat or res but I really dont hear anything but those tires lol. Those are 20" boss 318's. SUUUUUPEr heavy though. I'm trying to sell/trade them on CL right now for something smaller and lighter.

Fellas,
Are these the downpipes that fit our cars? http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/p/249-ZZP-Downpipes.aspx
If I did replace it all, I was thinking the 3" 304SS (without cat) pipe... I would simply add the cat separately using this part http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/53009/10002/-1?parentProductId=803583
Thanks for all of the advice!

Oh, and in case anyone cut off the stck rez and regrets it, a factory replacement unit (made by Walker) can be had for not much cash...

Those look like stock replacements. Are you planning on installing headers? Before I'd waste any of MY money on a replacement downpipe, I would save another $150 and get the headers I did.

Those come with a downpipe and can easily be bolted on in an hour or so and cost me $240 shipped to my door. Took a little working with to seal up the leaks and junked the clamps they came with and replaced with some from Jegs.

I wouldn't say a replacement 3" dp is a waste of money, and there's no way it took you an hour to install a set of headers. The stock DP is very restrictive and a replacement DP is a quick and easy way to free up the exhaust and drop a few degrees of KR. I got the SS headers for my riv and ended up getting a Bonneville 3" dp for Mel's riv, which keeps the car quieter than headers and actually takes only an hour to swap. I wasn't overly impressed with SLP knockoff headers. You definitely get what you pay for.

I'm fast bro.....reeeeeeeeal fast. Front was easy, had someone else working from top while I worked from below on the rear header. Downpipe back was a different story, exhaust shop did that.

This is how the Riv sounds with the mufflers removed. 2.5" pipe from the factry rez on out. Bigger than stock tips add to the sound.
Gets boomy in the car at around 2000 RPM. Might end up putting up some Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flows or the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers...

I'm confused i thought that people on the forum were using the other zzp downpipes with the series 2 rivs. Do the bonneville downpipes fit better?
sorry i'm not sure how to use the quote option i guess..

super quiet 3" exhaust system. The only thing you hear is a sound similar to the tinny sound headers make coming from the muffler that you only hear because the exhaust is quiet enough to hear little things like that.
What I love the most is that as I rev it, it doesn't make any ugly sounds at all.

Ok so the muffler to go at the back came in; It's sexy! I was toying with the idea of having it centered at the rear. I like the way it looks and the simplicity - two less turns in the piping but it sits too low. I was going to trim the body seam underneath the spare tire cavity but that only buys me about 1 more inch and that's not enough. I was even going to trim the bottom of the bumper skin to match the tailpipes but I don't see any way to get the muffler end high enough, even at a slight angle. So it's going to get welded in the right side with a new section of pipe tomorrow morning hopefully. I did a quick idle/rev test to make sure it's quiet enough and it passes. It even sounds good. I've said this before but I think this will be the final setup!
Here's some pictures for reference for anyone that is thinking about the center idea.
I'd say if you get a really flat muffler (4" tall), you could get away with it. Just be careful maneuvering inclines and stuff. THIS is the muffler I ordered. It's 5.5" tall x 9" wide x 15" long body. 3" inlet pipe straight-through insulated design. First impression wise, it's very nice quality. We'll see how it holds up.

Good call on not centering the tail pipes. Off to the side will look best. Very few cars can pull off the center exhaust look, and using aftermarket "universal" parts makes it near impossible, imo.

you can do it but you would have to delete the spare tire well. I say go for it

I got 'er welded on. It looks good and tucked into the car like it should be. Sound from the combination of mufflers is the deepest, smoothest sound of any setup I've had. It's not really loud or quiet. There's no rpm ranges where drone pops out and then goes away. It's very consistent which is great!
Interesting little side tidbit - When I was driving the car around the last couple days after I cut off the old walker muffler which left only the beast magnaflow muffler at the front quieting things, I temporarily threw on the 4" body glasspack I was using at the front previously. It was pretty loud like that. There was significant drone around 1700-2000rpm and that's an rpm you see a lot of driving casually. I took the glasspack off before I drove to the exhaust place to get the new muffler welded in and I feel like the exhaust was actually quieter without the glasspack helping the front muffler. Without the penetrating deepness that the glasspack produced, the drone range moved way up to around 4000rpm so cruising around was actually much less harsh drone-wise. I just wanted to note that huge difference in drone control that the glasspack made.
New DTM style muffler..

The one vid should be fixed now. As with all such videos, the video is a poor representation of reality but after driving it all day, I definitely like it. It sounds really good getting into throttle and as a result I'm certain I've used more gas than usual yesterday. It's tough

I bought a couple of Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers (2 1/4 in and 2 1/4 out). Had a local muffer shop replace the stock pipe from the back of the stock resonator all the way back with 2 1/4 stainless and install the Dynomax Super Turbos (they did a nice job with the mandrel bends and I finally got rid of that rediculously undersized 1 7/8" split pipe in the back!).
The sound is EXACTLY what I was hoping to achieve. It is a nice, low rumble at idle and is just a click louder than stock as I roll through my neighborhood at 20mph. When I get onto the main road and get on the gas, I can hear a real nice mix of supercharger whine and throaty exhaust rumble - perfect!

I seem to be getting a ticking noise after shutting my engine off. I'm pretty sure i have a leak in the crossover pipe. Is this a likely possibility? I just sort of listened around the engine bay( which can be really deceiving) and then i poked at the crossover and the noise seemed to change. If this is likely, would this cause a vacuum leak that would cause any problems? Thanks!

After you shut the engine off? If it's the noise I am thinking of, it's normal. A hot engine will make that noise. I think it is from metal expanding and contracting.

I think it is the noise you are thinking of, but i always thought that noise was oil dropping back into the oil pan. I guess i''ll have to seafoam it and see where smoke comes from.
