| Well I have been having problems with my 1995 Riv with the temp reader, it blinks when I start the car for about 20 sec's it stop and everything works just wondering why does it do it?
One more question do the 1995 have like a yellow tint on the drivers side mirror it looks odd.

| If you are talking about the engine temp guage, mine just did the same thing on my '95, and the PCM kicked up a code for low temp which caused a rich condition. I replaced the sensor for under 15 bucks and in less than 15 minutes. End of problems. The sensor is located under the throttle body. | |

| Don't know about the ext temp issue, but there is a sensor under the front bumper.
Some cars came with autodimming mirrors, may be the yellow in your driver side mirror.

| Wow, this is weird I've recently had the same problem start happening in my '96 Rivie. It's really just a nuisance more than anything but I'm curious as to why it keeps doing it. | |

| The light flashing on the HVAC readout means there is a problem somewhere in that system. It could be something as simple as a loose connection or a stuck actuator or another problem, for the HVAC system the Chassis Service Manual comes in VERY handy. My '95 flashes right now because I have the door panel off and the passenger temp. controls unplugged, it reads that there is a problem there and flashes. My '99 SA was flashing and I found one of the actuators MISSING, as soon as I replaced that actuator it stopped flashing. You might try looking for loose connections first and that might take care of your flashing light? Once the problem is corrected, after 40 cycles…engine starts…the codes are reset automatically. | |

| Sometimes my 95 climate control display will just black out and display just three dashes --- . I dont know why, it happens very rarely and doesn't seem to affect anything. I must say Riv's have wierd electrical issues.... | |

| I think im going to get checking on that actuator. Mine started doing the same thing the other day and the heat doesnt come on unless its on at least 85* inside temp and the outside is reading 190*. | |

when i buyed my riv it did the same.... when i took the cars interjor abart...then opened the climate controll box. there was a line of wires (9 wires) the connections of the wires had broken...cos of the vibration and age i guess. i took the wires off and moded a PC hdd's wire line(what had 21wires) cuted it into a 9 wire line and connected it whit the climate box. after that everything as worked fine. it has never blacked out anymore. The interjor temperature number is flaching sometimes when i start the car and the car is cold inside. but guess its plinking so long till the interjor temperature gets as high as on the climatecontroll seted.

Just had the same thing happen to me, so I searched for any info and found this thread. Your post was very re-assuring Randall. I just took off the passenger side door panel and then noticed that after I start the car, the climate control unit display flashes the ext. temp about five times and then flashes the int. temp about twenty times, but then eventually stops flashing. Hopefully when I put the door panel back on it will fix the flashing problem. In case it doesn't fix the problem, I was wondering if you could be more specific about the location of the actuator and sensor?

| Before taking off the door panel, did you have any issues with HVAC flashing temps at you.? If not, then that is your only problem. No need to go looking for missing components if there isn't a problem. There is a write up by Randall with pic's of the individual control actuators if you should have a problem | |

There is a write up by Randall with pic's of the individual control actuators if you should have a problem Once again, thanks for answering for me Rick. Maybe not word for word but the Service Manual states:If there is a problem, like parts missing, with the HVAC system the Temperature Display will flash until the problem is corrected, when corrected the display will stop flashing and after the ignition switch is turned 40 cycles the code will be deleted from the memory. The write-up I did on the actuators can be found here:https://rivperformance.editboard.com/interior-f20/write-up-hvac-assembly-t2500.htm#27279That write-up talks about the actuators that are under the dash. For control and head problems, I can't answer those questions intelligently as I haven't had to deal with any of those problems myself. As Rick said, if when you put the door panel back on the display stops flashing I wouldn't worry about it.

| Thanks for the response guys. I put the passenger door panel back on and the flashing persists. I started the car about five times now and each time the flashing is there. Since I don't have a problem with the temps in the car or with the temp blending from driver side to passenger side, I don't think the problem is an Actuator. Could it be a sensor? | |

the number was40 starts, not 5. A mech with a Tech II can clear the code and reset the thing, if indeed the problem is now fixed. Albertj

You didn't say, was it flashing before you removed the door panel? If there wasn't any flashing and there is now I would check your connections at the door panel. Once the problem, door panel re-installed, is corrected the flashing should STOP. The code would still be stored but the flashing display shouldn't happen.

| No, the car didn't flash before taking the door panel off. I have checked the connection at the door panel, but I will look again. But is there a sensor that coulb be responsible for this aswell? | |

A mech with a Tech II can clear the code and reset the thing, if indeed the problem is now fixed. Albertj FYI guys, to clarify the earlier quote from the manual, the Climate Control display flashes for 100 seconds at each startup, when there is a problem, but it does NOT require multiple engine cycles to stop. As soon as the problem is fixed it stops flashing at startup, and the codes are cleared in 40 ignition cycles... I disconnected the resirc-actuator at one point, and as soon as I reconnected it, the display went back to normal. Therefore I believe you still have a problem, and if you go to a mechanic, don't have him clear the codes, but rather read them for you.

| Yes thanks for that Eldo.
@ Albert, what I meant was, that I obviously have a bad connection or another issue since I have started the car five times now and the problem persists. Since re-connecting the door panel should have fixed the flashing. But am still curious if a sensor could be at fault?

I'd consider failure of the door control - but I am not aware of them failing, really. It is just a momentary switch and some LEDs. Maybe others can comment. Albert

| If the connection inside the door is good, you could have a broken wire, possibly in the door harness where it flexes at the jamb. Check wire continuity...I | |

| Well its been raining here the last couple of days so I haven't had a chance to pull the door panel off. I was going to do it today but last night the problem resolved itself!? The weather cleared up and the temperature dropped abit, I also went for an hour dirve to my brothers place. When I got in the car to go home, I started the car and the temp display didn't flash anymore. I don't know if the humidity the last couple days made a difference or if it was the long drive but now the HVAC display is fine. For what its worth last nights start up was around number 15. | |
