| OK, this is a warning for folks who might have a slightly tuned PCM and then plan to tune using HPTUNER. Apparently, some DHP altered bin files cannot be read by HPTUNER. Either a bad stroke of luck or some sort of write protection, these cannot be properly read and saved. I am waiting for some help from HPtuners, but I dont think there is an easy fix. Grand Prix users have been advised to get their PCM reflashed by a tech2 or to just find a stock file and write the PCM. Finding a stock file is easy for a GP because there are a lot of users. I might be out of luck. Anyway if anyone knows of a 97 Riv ower who uses HPtuners, I really really would like to get my hands on a stock *.hpt file. It looks like boattailBob might be able to help. Hopefully I can get ahold of him... Anyone know of a Tech2 owner in IL who can reflash my pcm? Worst case I head to the dealer... | |

| Aww man you guys rock! I was dreading a trip to the dealer.
I bet the dealer would charge me 150 bucks to tell me that the PCM was fine and didnt need a reflash....

| I'm assuming your problem comes from doing a full read from the PCM, right? Have you tried just importing your last .bin file to HPT? It's supposed to be able... I did save the .bin from my '98 before I made any changes. Good luck, HPT is on my list for this summer so let us know what you needed to do! I sure don't want to re-VE tune | |

My PCM was edited by the guy who started DHP. This a number of years ago, long before there were any personal tuners available. Who knows if he saved my stock bin. This was a custom quickie scan and tune in his driveway. Very minor things like shift points and idle, ect. So yeah, rule number one is to save your stock tune. I just never had that chance...

| UPS guy didn't come today unfortunately, so I don't have that file for you but it looks like you may be covered. I will let you know when it arrives if you still need the stock file then. | |

(supposedly) From what I read over on the Hptuner forum: You can do a full write of a stock bin. Either using an HPtuner or using a tech2 to reflash the pcm back to stock. I am sort of irritated that there was no warning or instructions how to overcome my previous tune. I sure hope it is as simple as writing a stock bin.

| AFAIK the only thing DHP did special was the trans shift tables anyway. You shouldn't lose too much. It's not so hard to tune... just takes time. If you want I'll send you my unlocked bin from my '98, if you can import it into HPT you can certainly look it over. | |

This was a "driveway" custom tune, I think he did my shift points, raised idle, egr delete, happy knob and misfire code delete. Im not too worried about losing the old tune. I think I traded him some antennas for it. I have been messing around with my wifes car and I cant wait to start tuning the Riv. Right now it is running kr free with a 3.4 and nearly no timing. I cant wait to unleash the GenV, with some boost and timing.

The file for my wife's malibuSS was 3-4 times as large. I guess that is the difference between a 97 and 2007. But yeah, the interface is fantastic. From what I understand, the interface has come a looong way. I really didnt want to have to figure out an interface while I was learning to tune.
