Header People:

Anyone break any studs? I've got some money saved up and after doing the F-body brakes (THIS MONTH I PROMISE) I think headers are next. What about removing the studs once the nuts are off to replace them with new ones, or is that even worth it?

Studs? There aren't any studs. The manifolds are held on by bolts. There are only like 2 or 3 "studs" which are nothing more than an extended bolt so brackets can attach to them.

If you break one, just pray that it breaks close to the head so that when you get the manis off, you have something to grab on to.....

Alright. I was looking into getting a set of these (not just for the headers but for anything). From what I've read they're pretty good and work better than easy outs which I personally have not had any luck with. Should help the install go smoothly if anything does break.

Only problem with those is that they're made for rounded/damaged heads, not a broken stud. You'd need stud removers to get out a broken stud. Type in "stud remover" on that page you linked, and a bunch of them come up.

FYI, every single one of mine came out without a problem. I was actually shocked.

Mine came out easily, too. Lube with PB Blaster a few hours ahead, then let engine run to get them warm prior to removal. Lube again with PB a few minutes ahead.

Replace with ARP stainless header screws. These aren't cheap, but you'll thank yourself when tightening, as the small hex heads can be driven with a 1/4 drive ratchet for more work room. They also break free easily years down the road for engine or exhaust removal. Mine are still shiny and new-looking.

I was planning on getting the stainless screws. I don't see a point in putting old rusty bolts on new shiny hardware.

Right, you can find stainless 5/16-18 screws for less than $1 ea. I like the ARPs because of the small flange heads.
