How much would it cost for a GM tech to actuate the solonoid for me? And is it possible to do a flush by myself?

I have a friend at a GM dealership and he actuated the solenoid (to the best of his ability) I don't think he put it to full open, just turned it on and off. I read the screen on the TechII and it said something about 9% somewhere towards the top. But that didn't work, he said it would be 140 for the transmission flush and I am tempted to get it done.

Meilleurs,

Ordered Mobil One Synthetic ATF for $41.23 for 6 quarts after mail in rebate and I thought I would let you guys know. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009IE2R0U/ As discussed in this thread you will need around 8 quarts for a pan drop. Another two quarts would cost around $20 to $30, so it isn't much more to get another case. I think I will try to use this pump from Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/multi-use-transfer-pump-66418.html and see if I can get most of the fluid out so I don't make as big of a mess.

Changed the filter and oil today. The hand pump from Harbor Freight worked well. It got most of the oil out of the transmission. Also bought this tool http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IHJZD8/. Worked great to remove the seal in the transmission and also used it to help remove the old filter.

I did a pan drop toward the end of last year and again today to help 'freshen' the fluid with some new. I've been putting her on Dex VI and running some Lubeguard Red along with it. I think, however, that if I drop the pan again I'm going to just go ahead and get one of the ZZP pans with the cooling fins and a drain plug. If I go the cheap route I might just add a drain plug to my existing pan.

How much ATF can I expect to pump out or drain on a '97? I've read writeups and threads that claim capacity from 7 to 13+ quarts.

I'll hand pump out as much as I can before dropping the pan. Like to know that I have enough pan available before the ATF hits the fan.

I believe mine took just a hair under 6 quarts, but I have a 96 (4T60E) versus your 97 (4T65E-HD).

If 10, where are the other 4? Finished my drain and re-gasket. I'd say less than a quart of pan spillage after hand-pumping. On a difficulty scale of 1-10, I'd call the job a 3.

Finally getting a chance to get this done today, however my Duralast filter from Autozone did not include the little O'ring. Is changing that a must? I understand that if the filter goes on to easy then I might have a problem.

The O-ring....are you referring to the metal ring gasket that the filter snaps in to? If so, as long as the one that's in the car isn't blown out, there really isn't a need to change it.

Yep. It's a metal hat looking thing with cork on the inside. It certainly isn't a bad idea to replace it. Getting the old one out can be a bit of a task though. You have to smash the edges in to pull it out. Careful not to mar up the tranny though. It's just like installing an axle seal or something of that nature. Not hard to do, but carelessness can cause a mess.

Just got it finished. you guys weren't kidding, that damn metal seal is a PITA ! either way its out with just a few little dings in the housing. new filter snapped in and refilled with almost 7 quarts of Dex VI. Just driving around the block everything feels good, positive smooth shifts, no leaks.

My 97 SC is put away for the winter and I want to order a new trans pan with a drain plug. I see two models available: one with 6mm bolts and one with 8mm bolts. Appears to be the same shape and pattern but different size holes. Anyone know which I have? Thanks!

Question. I am ready to change the filter in my trans, and the local chain stores only have filters for the 4T65E marked as an exact fit for my 97 Riviera. Would the filter be the same for the 4T65E and 4T65E-HD ?
