okay, ordered two magaflow 11225's and two magnaflow chrome tips
2 1/4 inlet and outlet. will have y-pipe redone to make whole system 2 1/4. Not huge, but bigger than the 2" which runs from the y-pipe
taking her to meineke for a/c work, muffler and suspension work
then she's just about 100%
making the pipes bigger is likely to give you a certain drone.

just from the y-pipe to mufflers... 1/4 inch bigger than what's there now...
was thiking the main pipe was 3"...but it's 2 1/4... so the system should be all the same size..
these are "performance" mufflers... bought them to add a little noise...not too much...not too little.
we'll see!

"noise" yeah but drone is going to make you angry.... I mean it's your car not mine so knock yourself out... I think to get the sound you want you're at the stock pipe sizes but putting on a pair of Magnaflows or Hooker Maximum Flows. I'd suggest the Hookers.

hard to believe ijust read every page. ok soooo. 3 inch down pipe to cat, then what to get the best performance yet quietest sound. will be mofifying the car later. or just get the downpipe and plog and keep stock mufflers for now.. I tell ya off topic that ilve the way these cars pull silently lol

well, I wil keep the OEM mufflers! But I don't know about a drone. I'm not going from a small pipe to a larger,or from a larger to a smaller. It's all 2.25"
Won't know until they're on next week.
BTW...I'm in KCMO
106 next three days...it's F'ing HOT!!!!!

My opinion is that mufflers don't matter on these cars unless you want to be able to hear the 3800 V-6 sound. The OEM muffs aren't that restrictive, and have been retained in builds up to the 300-400 HP range.
If you want the quietest sound, keep it stock cat-back. The performance is already there from the factory, and our exhaust is a quality stainless system that will last. You won't gain much replacing mufflers until you are at an advanced modding stage (heads, cam, etc.)
They are 2.25" mufflers with the same inlet/outlet pattern we use on our Rivs'.
They sound great. Not too loud, no highway drone and when they do make noise, it's at the rear and a mid bass sound...it doesn't reverberate thoughout the cabin.
I love it!!!!, had some chrome tips welded on as well..
Meineke did it for me, with the a/c fix and the alignment, (I bought the mufflers first)..it was a very low cost mod!
At the y-pipe...all OEM from here to engine...but all new from y-pipe back. Guy did a great welding job!
with the new chrome tip
stainless stell Magnaflows...
Chrome tips I ordered too...better than I thought!
Overall, not 100% symmetrical, but damned close....
I'm totally happy with the results!!!...did NOT set off the car alarm you hear..

thanks! I think that's the last mod I wanted to do to the Riv...so she's all set for another few years!

I know. I saw that too...are there bushings or such I should buy? I'd just put on new air shocks right before I took the pics, so the ass end is WAY up high...kinda looked cool!
But, I agree...
thoughts?

The rubber bushing portion of the link is probably not tooo bad. but the outer tie rod ends are most likely shot.you live in Kansas,it snows, theyre shot. disconect one and move the ball stud and see.Its a pet peeve of mine that the rear end of a front drive car is tip top.the rear linkages and mounting points affect the ride more than you know. i dont know if there are individual small parts available for the rear.RidzRiv might be having the same issue.ill call raybestos and moog, see if they have a solution.otherwise ya gotta buy the whole part from the dealer.

just had car aligned though...they didn't mention wear. I did want them to fix the wobble I get on sweeping left turns...but they couldn't find it...and after the proper alignment I don't know if it's still there.
I live in Missouri! Kansas is close though..
We only had 3 inches of snow last year...can you believe that? 44" the year before and it's f'ing HOT and dry this summer...

wobble on sweeping turns = please check the sway bar links and bounce the corners of the car to check for bad struts/shocks - funny noises/clunks = probably need to replace.

all sway bar links and bushings replaced. Front end tight...possible a bearing, something to do with the rack, or struts...car is 100% driveable...I'll wait it out

huhaaa so i replaced my mufflers with magnaflows ( by the way Summit has a deal, if you buy a magnaflow muffler, your entire order is free shipping!). anyways i spent an extra 50 bucks for next day delivery, they are 14 inches long ( not including inlet and outlet) 9 inch wide and 4 inches thick, the diameter in and out is 2.25 for BOTH mufflers. hopefully that wasnt too small of a diameter ( since i have both mufflers), it isnt loud at all , i think. i can barely here it inside the care and there is NO drone, none, nada. btw this is the first mod ive done to this car since i bought it in june.

What do you all think of this? http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Shop-by-Category/Mufflers/Aero-Turbine-XL-Muffler-with-Built-In-Resonator
Revolutionary Design
The Aero Turbine XL is a straight thru design, high performance muffler that features a built in resonator for added sound suppression. The company spent over three years in research and development to design a muffler that uses the principles of thermodynamics to reduce EGT's, increase horsepower, torque, fuel economy, and reduce engine wear and tear. With its fully welded 304 Stainless Steel construction, the Aero Turbine XL is nearly indestructible. Weighing in around 10 pounds, the Aero Turbine XL is a natural choice for the performance minded enthusiast.
As the exhaust stream enters the Aero Turbine XL muffler, it expands to fill the cylindrical chamber. This expansion slows the exhaust stream, creating a lower pressure at the inlet which causes a scavenging effect similar to that of a header. The exhaust stream is then split via an airfoil cone with an orifice similar to a conical jet engine. The outer stream accelerates to a higher velocity as it flows around the cone and has a lower pressure than the core stream, which is traveling at a slower velocity, and a higher pressure. The two streams are reintroduced via perforations in the center core. The high pressure inner stream is initially drawn out of these perforations as the gas attempts to equalize the pressure differential between the two streams. As this occurs, the change in direction of the exhaust stream causes destructive interference, which deadens the sound. As the pressure is equalized towards the rear of the canister the exhaust gas is pushed back through the helically arranged perforations in the center core, which spin the exhaust stream, causing additional sound cancellation, reducing turbulence, and creating a vortex that enables the gas to more efficiently exit the muffler. This revolutionary design has been tested and proven to flow more exhaust gas than straight pipe!
This would net me at least an additional ~40HP. Right?
These guys are into it.

The description is (probably permissible) marketing hype. Gas flow is largely regulated by size of outlet.
Basically to me the design looks kinda like certain horn mutes that jazz performers use with trumpets.
Ought to ask for gas flow and sound attenuation specs.
