| Well, since my car needs a 3k motor and i still owe 4K on it, I have gotten myself turned upside down in it. I honestly love my car, and as much as I disdain doing it, I am now seriously considering parting it out. Almost everything on my car is in like new condition. the current odometer reading is 74k, and like I said, every little sensor, switch, light, suspension part, body part, and interior part is perfect. I even have some funky riv wheels from Worx for it. O and just put new headlight housings in too. Flowmaster exhaust already to hang under your riv too. Even have a big stereo I would part wit while we at it. Honestly though, it depends on how interested you guys are in the car on wether or not I actually do it. | |

| You should be able to get a used motor for $500 or so. They abound in junkyards in running condition.
I firmly believe that unless you are going for a performance build, it's not worth it to build a motor from scratch. The 3800 is generally such a good engine you should be able to get a long life from a used one. | |

| I agree with deekster. Find a 3800 at a local yard and swap it in. | |

| I doubt you will be able to sell many parts. If you were to sell more than $1000.00 worth of parts I would be surprised. Just not much demand for most of the stuff and shipping is killer on any deal. Bert:tavis: | |

| No reason to pay 3k. I assume that is for an installed rebuilt engine? Find a moderate mileage running SI at a yard, and a local shop to install. It would be a real shame to dismantle a Riv in such nice condition. You won't get your money's worth parting it out anyway. | |

| Thanks for the input guys... I heeded your advice and located one from a local yard for 400. I has 160k on it though, so I think i will try to find one with a few less miles on it. Would you be able to tell me if there is another car that might have a series one sc engine? All i could think of is a SSEI bonneville. And, do I have to get a sc motor to replace it with. One guy said the sc motors are all forged on the bottom end. | |

| For a Supercharged '95, my system only shows two in my region, one in New Brunswick, and another in Ontario, one is parts only and the other is just minus a supercharger. | |

| check on the net/ebay for engines.
Ed Morad crates engines pretty reasonable.
Sure we'd "cherry pick" your car for parts but the right thing for you to d is go ahead and fix it up. There are so many 3800 and SC3800 engines out there, it is *VERY* likely you can find one that that will serve.

| Jeremy....fix the engine or drop another one into it, even if all that costs 1k you're still ahead of the game. I would guess a Riv with 74k on it and everything else working could easily to be worth 5-6k...if not today at some point in the future. I know a guy that blew-up his 396 powered Chevelle SS, his neighbor offered to rebuild it for the cost of the parts which at the time was around $1200, he didnt want to spend the 1200 and instead sold the car to his neighbor for 2000...the neighbor still owns the car that was recently appraised at $38,000. he put 2 kids through college using it as collateral on loans....keep your Riv dude! | |
