Ticking noise in the engine 95 series 1 Empty
PostSubject: Ticking noise in the engine 95 series 1   Ticking noise in the engine 95 series 1 EmptySat Jan 31, 2009 1:37 pm

I have a ticking noise in the engine of my 95 riviera. The Dealer was no help. I have changed the lifters, rods, new coupler in the supercharger. New upper and lower tensioners and manifold gaskets. I have taken the belts of and the noise is still there. Any ideas.

try taking a vaccum cleaner hose, put one end to your ear, and move the other around the engine bay to try and isolate where exactally the ticking is comming from...

I have tried that along with a stophscope and I am still unable to locate the noise. If I keep my foot in the supercharger the noise goes a way but when I let up it comes back.

Is this something that just happened?
Is it a very light tick? Just at idle?

All of the Series I engines I have owned, and friends have had, have had a very light ticking sound at idle.
I just figure it's normal for that engine.

dunno

This just started about a 3 weeks now. It starts when ther engine reaches normal temp. The ticking gets faster as the engine races and slows down as the engine slows

If it still makes the noise while the belts are off, it has to be exhaust related IMO. Look at the over-the-transmission pipe and it's joints. There is a gasked at the rear that might be failed.

If it is exhaust you might be able to see it. If you can get in a very dark area, like in a garage. Maybe put it on jack stands and get under it and look for the leak.
You might be able to hear it better from under the car too...

I wonder if it's the fuel injectors. They "tick" or click.

Thanks, I will check the exaust tomorrow. As far as the fuel injectors I installed new O rings when I changed the coupler. One injector was cracked so I replaced it. I think the injectors are good. Does any one have a photo of the Over the Transmission pipe? And exactly where is it located?

Get yourself a hose (stethoscope) and put one end to your ear, with the other end hunt around to pinpoint the noise.
