Hey guys, something I was curious of - can you powder coat the factory chrome rims? I thought it would be interesting if I had mine powder coated black left the lip around the edges chrome and it would still retain that factory look (but I'd be pissed if someone stole my centers this time...). Just an interesting thought that occured to me. What would something like that cost anyway, I've never looked so I have no idea what kind of ballpark we're talking here.

I've also thought black chrome might look cool too. Anyone done anything special to the stock rims (Particularly the chrome 7 spokers)?

Powder coat doesn't adhere to chrome, so the chrome has to be stripped off before coating. Don't think you can leave the chrome lip without great difficulty. You would have to check with a shop that does powdercoating and find out what they can and cannot do and how much it costs.
I've not had any done recently and the price of powder/paint has gone up, like everything else.
I think it would be cheaper to buy new aftermarket wheels that you like.

Humm, figures...just an idea. I never realized this is how I've seen BMW rims that look OEM that are black. They're powder coated, duh...
