| Unfortunately my L67 in my riv has bit the big one, but I like the look of my 96 riviera. I am thinking about putting a new engine in it, what do you think I should do? I am thinking of placing a high revving V-tec in there. Is this a good idea? | |

| I'd go with the L32, which is the Series III 3.8L. It has the Eaton Gen V Supercharger. Or you can have ZZPerformance build you a modified 3.8.
BTW Rivman88, I'm lovin' your avatar.

Bolt a trailer hitch on a Honda Civic, add a trailer + 1500 lbs of cargo, and you'll get an idea of how heavy a Riviera is. But you already know that since you drive one. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| V-tec parts are still cheaper, and it is much easier to upgrade. There is such a variety in parts. | |

Cheaper and easier doesn't always = better. I have never been beaten by Vtec in a race. I know it's possible, just hasn't happened yet. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| Why replace with a motor that will require absurd amounts of modifications just to do what the stock motor can do? But either way, I'm assuming you're talking about one of the vtec 4 cylinders and let me assure you they will never get you the result you want in this car. They are just too small to use in a 3700lb car. They make all their power up at the top which means driving this car on the street with it would be... interesting (not in a good way) | |

| You might/should think about dropping a 3800 in one of those light Hondas. It'd *just* fit.

| The reason you don't want a VTEC engine is torque. These cars are heavy and that means you need an engine with low end torque and a flat torque curve to get it moving. The supercharged 3800 V6 is perfect for that purpose. If you really want to put a completely different engine in it, if you know enough about those engines go ahead. The VTEC engines don't make their power until they are revving up high, so you'd need to drive around at 3/4 to full throttle most of the time in traffic...
Rickw, I agree... | |

| I think he should put the 1.0L 3-cyl turbo from the Smart fortwo. 70 horsepower and 68 lb/ft should be enough for a Riv, right? | |
