| Do you have any reason to believe that would be an easy swap? Would YOU be doing the work yourself? What kind of torque numbers you gonna see with that powerplant? It takes torque to get a 3700 ~ # car moving. | |

| Maybe they could swap a radial engine in from an old biplane. | |

It'd be heck from a standing start (0 - 60 in about a week) but OK at steady speed cruise on fairly flat terrain. I bet it only takes a 10 to 20 HP engine to keep the slippery RIv cruising at 60 MPH or so. Albertj

I agree. At that speed, our cars equal or exceed efficiency of a Vtec I-4. Just for giggles, here's an interesting fact: I can get 37 MPG on the highway. With 18.2 gal fuel capacity, that equals a 673.4 mile travel range. While a Vtec-powered Civic probably offers the same or better economy, it's 13.2 gal fuel tank means it would need to achieve a consistent 51 MPG to travel as far as a Riviera. Kind of puts the efficiency thing in a different perspective, doesn't it? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

Regardless of the engine you have to spend fuel, so its all about how efficient the engine is. Its really just where you spend your time in the design of the engine, does it have a low displacement and rev high? or do you approach it from the other end and make it high displacement but low revs? Like 2 cars, one has to rev at 3 grand to maintain 100mph, and the other only has to rev 1500 to maintain the same speed.
As far as what is more efficient, IMO there is a reason that high reving "milk and orange juice" sized engines are for the most part only in little light cars. They just don't put out the torque needed move a big heavy car. So that logic would indicate that if you actually take into account actual fuel spent vs weight of the object in motion, you would arrive at the conclusion that higher displacement provides a more efficient use of the fuel.
However, it all depends on how you drive too: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/143-Top-Gear-Toyota-Prius_180378.htm
If you like high revs, by all means get something that blows your skirt, but understand that there are "supporting requirements" for it to really work well in your application, (IE weight of the car). With that in mind, consiter what would happen if you stuffed an engine that was ment to propell a big heavy car along quickly, and could maintain good fuel efficiency, into a small sport compact. The power(not just HP, but torque too) to weight would become insane. I've often laughed at how much money people have spent on "ricey" mods that make their cars all show, and not much go. When for that same money they could realisticly grab something like the 3.8sc(which really are cheap), stick it in, and make something thats "crap your pants fast", and would have unbelievable fuel economy.(IE crusing the highway at like 700 revs)
and thats my 2c! _________________

| Now I want to put an L67 in a Civic. | I will also be saving at least 1000 on the motor itself. Leaving me with a decent sum of money to do simple upgrades. Also, over time i could I could continue to place mods on it, eventually having a car that is relatively fast and without too much hassle and cost. | |

| I think you want something with low end torque. A V tec might work if you added some upgrades, but I think it would be a costly mistake, where as you might be better off spending a little more money for an engine better suited for your car | |

Other than maybe a non-csc supercharger and a very custom cam profile (that would never be saught for in a typical application), or stroking the motor, there are not really any mods that are going to take care of the low end torque problem. In fact, a lot of the modifications that give the 4 cyl vtecs a lot more top end, hurt the low end even more, which would mean you'd be spending even more money and making the heavy car even more of a dog to drive. Imagine putting a 250hp 1000cc turbocharged motorcycle motor in the riv... different scale but same problem...
