there should be hot stamping or stickers inside the lid of the fuse boxes with the numbers and abbreviations (like HTR and such) that tell you more or less what the underseat fuses and breakers are. | |

| So my dash lights went out last night. I checked the fuse for the instrument panel, it was blown, so I replaced it and the dash lights still aren't on. I checked the fuses under the back set and they are good. What should I try next??? I can see the odometer and the radio lights but they are very dim. Thanks for any ideas, it kinda sucks to drive it at night!! | |

| Where are the Riviera Gurus???? I hate to just start replacing parts and hoping for it to work. What should I try first, the lighting control module or the dimmer switch?? | |

I hate to just start replacing parts and hoping for it to work. What should I try first, the lighting control module or the dimmer switch?? Is the fuse blown again? If it is, you have a short somewhere. I wouldn't start replacing parts without testing first. The FSM has various testing charts to narrow down the problem with a multi meter. These cars are so complex that you need an FSM. It isn't optional despite how good this site is. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| I replaced the fuse and even tried another one ,just in case.I wonder why, if it blew the first fuse, it didn't blow the next on,e but the lights still dont work. Could it have damaged the light control module? I do have a multi tester. Not to sound too stupid ,but is FSM, Factory Service Manual? Thanks for your input, I agree with getting one and testing before just replacing. | |

| Yes, FSM is factory service manual. Diagnosing these cars is a lot harder than earlier cars. Lots of electronics, lots of wires, more complicated, more to go wrong. These cars are kind of prone to electrical problems. That and the piss poor steering column are my main complaints. Still love my Riviera though. Overall, the best car I have ever owned. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Now in retrospect, I did change the light bulb in the drivers side door handle last week. I have done it before and it lasted about a year. Good connections, no wires exposed to short out, BUT that is something that was changed and them this problem popped up. It just got me to thinking. Maybe it messed with the lighting control module? Anyways, I guess its time to get a FSm and start probing!?Thanks again for your help. | |
