From one of my other post that mention these:

I bought them from www.shopgmparts.com because they let you buy individual clips. If you go to gmpartsdirect.com they make you buy the whole bag of clips which is stupid IMO. It came to about $25 including shipping for all the clips for one wheel well. Hope this helps!

Are we all talking about the same fasteners. Just for clarification:

The title is about the ones that hold the chrome trim to the metal fender and are only available from a GM supplier. Dealer or On-Line.

The other Black Plastic fasteners are available at NAPA for $0.50 each as compared to about a dollar each from the dealer.

Well now that there have been 3 more replies about the clips, I feel compelled to
point out that the current question I answered, by 'captain57', was about the moldings... read

That's fine, except you still pay shipping costs. I got good discounts at my dealer and didn't have to take full bags. I'm sure that's not everyone's experience, so it's nice to see other options of course.

Rick, I'm talking about the fasteners in the title. Dunno about VJ.

Thanks for the info, Randall. The 25639947 is the black tab clip. They go on the front edge of the fender, toward the bumper. The 25639946 must be for the others with holes. Not sure how they are arranged in the rear, but I thought I saw Phillips screws back there? Makes sense they'd all be 25639946 for the back.

Well I picked up my clips today from the dealer. The part numbers are as posted in this thread. However, both the bare steel clips AND the black-coated clips all have those holes in them. The 2 style clips they sold me are identical except the 25639947 is black-coated. I can see no other differences whatsoever. Except the black clips are 64% higher priced...

Do you suppose the black coating is corrosion resistance related? I'd think they'd have coated all of them in that case.

Dave,
The last time i bought those fasteners / clips I noticed the same thing. They are identical except for the coating on the more expensive ones.
In the future I'll just get the lesser expensive of the 2 and use them for the whole trim piece.
Can't understand why they call out 2 separate P/N's either.
The heck with the coating, whatever it is.

Phosphate? Used to be commonly used on many automotive components years ago, such as my 68 GS. Kind of looks like that's what it might be.

vvv FLAGGED AS SPAM (hyperlink removed) vvv

hey, saw the picture references here, i am shamed to say this but i myself always lost some of them fender trim even on short trips around the state. Whenever I get to my friend who owns an aftermarket car parts he would always predict my problem is with the car. either these or gas caps. LOL

Note the content seems to mesh with the topic, but is designed generically to fit many car forum discussions. This user was planting links inside many threads under more than one username, violating terms of our agreement. PLEASE BE AWARE, KEEP A LOOKOUT!!!!

tell your aftermarket buddy to sell you some 3M Strip-Calk to tack the trip clips in place next time you put them on.

^^ Yeah, I just Gorilla glued my clips onto the arches. Worked incredibly well one year and two months later. LOL

There's no reason to throw them out when those weak POS tabs break on them. What an awful design. *shakes head in disgust*

96, drivers side, between the chrome trim and the fender itself is a rubber gasket (?) that is split, so a portion is hanging inside the wheel well and another, flapping in the wind and beating against the side of my car. Can I get just that, remove the trim, replace it and be done or is that the blind optimist in me?

It's all one piece.

See pictures here:
Fender chrome trim clips?

It shows pictures mainly of the clips, but it also shows the trim piece being one piece.

No, but you can clean it and cement it back in place with black RTV silicone. Use a toothpick to get the excess off while wet. Permanent repair but it must be clean first. Use window cleaner or dry gas to be sure to get waxes etc. off or the RTV won't hold. You can repair it inplace or unclip the trim (the stainless and black vinyl are stapled together) and then repair the vinyl and reinstall when dry.

IF your trim ring is otherwise straight and undented I suggest you repair it.

My trim ring is perfect * so I guess, I'll give this a shot. I just happen to have some black RTV.

*Prior to me attempting this job. I'll report it's status after .

If you can work indoors and well-lit, leave thechrome in place and use a toothpick to apply the RTV to the vinyl and refit it as you go; put masking tape or some such on it overnight to hold it in place while the RTV cures.

I have 2 trim vinyl strips repaired this way, repair has held 3+years.

When I bought the car the chrome strip is off the car with little metal clips on the car. Does this chrome piece slide back on the clips of what? I have looked at several other posts and i am still confused. Can someone show me a picture of what the car front fender looks like with the chrome strip taken off properly and what the chrome strip on the underside of it should look like when you properly take it off. Thank yuou

probably best way is to stop by dealer parts dept and ask for a printout of the page showing the trim rings and clips - way easier and way less risky than pulling a trim ring, those *(#$(@*#& clips bend/break each time you pull the ring off.

While you are at the dealer order the clips. THey are not that expensive, I think they come pack of 10.

The outside strip I fixed with RTV. The inside I cut off the loose part with a razor knife. Holding up pretty well so far.

I don't see any harm in posting the numbers in this thread. If someone is planning on ordering some items anyway they can add them to the order. Sometimes you don't have a good parts counter to go to. It is much easier to tell them what part you need without them staring at the screen for 10 minutes and pulling up the wrong part. I have had that happen too many time before.

no offense intended. I guess I should have said that the clips are used in the dealer body shops and what not ant they're not likely to give you the terminal stare when you ask. there may be numbers on the site, heck I may have posted them some time ago but I no longer have them. Hopefully someone will chime in but if not it's unlikely to become an issue.
