| Subject: Engine won't crank because A/C issue? Tue Dec 15, 2009 12:02 pm | |
| Had an interesting problem last night. Engine wouldn't crank over. Car has a good battery and a new starter. Even tried shorting across the starter to eliminate switch and relay issues. Took the belt off and the engine cranked over fine. Turns out I have a A/C bearing froze up, first time I'd ever seen it completely stop an engine from turning over. (must have a good belt at least)
Next thing is, there's no listing for a A/C bypass pulley for a 95 buick riviera supercharged. However, there is one made for a 95 park avenue ultra. Does anyone know what the difference between the two could be?

| Ouch, don't tell me this. I just replaced the ac compressor clutch, and now every so often my car will start hard, or start and then when you turn the climate control on, you get a clunk loud and hard enough to make you jump and make the car shudder. Damn, I wonder if that's what's going to go next.... *sigh* | |

| Sure enough that's what it was. The bypass pulley from the park avenue would work but some spacers would have to be added to make the pulley align properly.
-I did find out that the bypass pulley designed for a LT1 in a 94-96 chevy caprice/buick roadmaster would work if you put slightly longer bolts and nuts on them. The pulley is a little bit smaller but the belt tensioner takes up the slack. | |
