| Scott, I agree this should be in Tech. Please post a duplicate in the oil pan thread.

| Cool! Did you have to get a new gasket or whatnot? I heard lots of people just dump rtv on it but I really wouldn't wanna do that. | |

| Will do AA.
Turtle, the factory '05 Bonne oil pan is made for a thick rubber gasket, and has a groove for it. Look at the second pic and you can see it installed in the pan. The pans that DON'T come with a gasket are the replacement oil pans. I originally ordered a NIB pan...it was meant for a GMS gasket. FYI, the oil pick-up tube and adapter are discontinued from GM. I couldn't even locate one. That's why shot Morad a parts request...

IIRC GM ditched the cast aluminum pans because if you hit an obstruction with one it would shatter or crack instead of deforming as a steel one does. Cracked pan means oil loss and catastrophic failure, although cracked pan unlikely in normal driving.

| It's one evil vs another but it would take something unusual to crack the cast I think. It's pretty easy to get a nice dent in the steel right where the pickup is and that's a silent killer | |

| Sure the cast pan is brittle, but I think it came down to cost. Stamped steel is WAY cheeper to produce than cast aluminum. Easy decision for GM. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| I'll get this posted up in the Tech forum today. I was sick yesterday. GM didn't ditch a cast Aluminum pan. They use them on every single car/truck they make. I could order the pan from work brand new. It's the oil filter adapter and the pick-up tube that are discontinued. It's just that for some reason, the replacement "ordered" pans are cast differently and are made for a GMS gasket instead of a rubber molded one like the factory pan has. | |

| In all seriousness, it's fun to tinker with, but the effects are pretty crude; don't even come close to being good art. It'll take a few more years before the computers can paint pretty pictures for free. But I believe it will happen! _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Hey Abaddon! Stop messing with graphics and install that blower! It’s calling from its shelf, waiting for the chance to fulfill its life purpose of creating boost. The car wants its valve train R&R, LIM, and blower. I can feel it from here. (Yeah I know, these things have their own momentum of timing.) _________________ | |

| I KNOW!!!! Still waiting on an LIM. I get my 2 week vacation check the week of Nov 11th. I made an appointment to get more ink on my arm. I need to buy the whole windshield part for the Jeep (it's rusted through), and I need to buy a leaf blower. I think I'll be left with about $1300 after that. I'm seriously tempted to buy a Cam. May as well just rip the whole thing apart and do it all at once. It just seems to keep getting put off. That's the problem with being a mechanic....I'm stuck working on everybody else's car instead of my own. Hell, I still have a P/S pump and a drive belt sitting here new for the last 5 years lol. | |

| Woke up this morning, stepped in cat puke. Changed my socks. Went outside to go to work, RR tire is completely flat and de-beaded. Spare is flat. No air pump. Wait until 9am, go to Aco and buy air pump. Had to jack up car to get the bead to seal. Thankfully these tires are wide enough to seat themselves. Made it to work by 10:15. Good morning..... | |
