| dude idk why but it looks like you guys have so much more room between your throttle body and that opening.. my engine is from an impala, but should still be the same size I suppose... when I made my fwi, there wasn't enough room between the 45 off the tb, and the other 45 to put a straight peice like you guys did, mines just 45, 45, then 90 down into the hole with a 4 inch straight peice on that | |

| I had trouble when I tried the pvc pipes too. I couldn't get it to fit in there. I'm guessing you should have the same size considering its the same engine though?
Why is your engine from an impala did yours die?

| Mine is tight, you'll notice the 45 going into the reducer isn't exactly straight. It's slightly cocked to make the angle needed to get to the opening in the FW. | |

| same with mine, but even with it like that, there was still 0 space between the 45's | |

| jax and rhino can you tell me exactly what parts you used on your intakes. i'd like to make one like yours. another dumb question - do you have to expand the size of the fender passage from the engine compartment for yours to work or could i use 3in plumbing for example and not have to mangle my engine bay | |

| turtleman I used a 3" pipe for my intake and it seemed to fit fine. HOWEVER, Im not quite sure how Im going to seal everything without enlarging the whole. | |

| This is the link I used as an example to build my intake. I went through the top instead of through the fender well though. I didn't want to rip my fender well apart everytime I wanted to clean my filter. So, I probably took more material off enlarging the hole for my filter. IF you are going to do it the way I did, I suggest using air tools. It makes the job much easier. I used a 7" filter which is pleanty big enough. I still had to remove the horn. Three inch pipe should work fine with minimal trimming. I also used black bumper paint. It worked with the pvc well and it was more of satin or semi gloss finish. https://rivperformance.editboard.com/Supercharged-3800-Tech-c2/Series-II-Engine-Transmission-f4/Write-Up-4-FWI-t107.htm | |

| basically, I followed jason's guide, and used the same materials he did.
4 inch to 3 inch rubber reducer on the tb, 4 inch 45 degree bend off the tb, 45 degree from that, 90 degree bend going into the fender well . I only ended up using maybe 4-5 inches of the 2 foot pipe though, and I used that on the end of the 90 going into the fender well with a 4 inch to 3 inch reducer with the filter on the end of that. and yeah, if you want to use 4 inch piping you'll need to expand the fender well hole a couple of inches on two sides. almost everyones will come out different I think, i'm not sure if anyone used reducers on theirs.. I just found it much easier, although my filter sits alot lower then everyone elses, and I removed a small peice of plastic for optimum air flow.. just going to have to be careful driving in the rain or washing my car.
I had to cut maybe 3 inches off of the second 45 bend to land the 90 directly into the fender well, but again, mine came out different then others.

| Guys, how is the transition inside your 4x3 reducers? Is there a sharp line protruding out into the air flow? We happen to sell 3x2 rubber reducers, and looking at them, I see the inside has a sharp-edged "ring" protruding at the transition point. I would think that it could be trimmed down fairly easily for smoother flow.
Now I'm not thrilled with the idea of cutting my stock fenderwell opening in order to fit a 4" pipe... wouldn't a 3" FWI pipe provide a significant improvement over the stock airbox also? 4" would be nice, I admit, just don't like the idea of cutting.

| cutting the hole sounds alot worse then it really is. all I did was open it up maybe 2-3 inches on two sides, and if you ever want to sell the car stock, you can always pick up some aluminum and just weld a few strips in, no problem. and yeah a 3 inch would still provide a considerable improvement over the stock airbox | |

| Well wouldnt the stock airbox cover that hole? Or you could just sell it w/ the fwi on and explain that to them. either way I am sure it wouldnt look bad if you do it right. How did you open yours up? | |

| If you cut using a pattern, and you're neat about it, I bet it's hard to tell it's not stock. But like Troy said, the stock air box would cover it up.
In my experience, the hole is big enough as is to flow enough air for most of our cars. My 3.5" FWI tapers down to 3" to fit through the stock hole, and I'm getting plenty of air for my set up. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

I can also get a 60deg elbow at Home Depot, wonder if that would be TOO much of a bend?

I dunno Dave, I had to do some head scratching when I was putting it together. My biggest concern was getting the hole in the right place. I didn't want some huge opening. IF I ever sell the car, the old air box will cover the hole no problem. I chain drilled the hole as much as I could and then used a 90 degree sander/grinder to clean up the rest. It's not a hard job. If I can do it, anyone can. Buy the 60 along with the other pieces and take it back if you don't need it.
