Wax / Polish Empty
PostSubject: 3M Performance Finish. ( The wax thread)   Wax / Polish EmptyMon Sep 15, 2008 1:24 am

Wax / Polish Mmm39010

I just bought some a few days ago on a hunch that it might be a pretty good product. It was about 15 bucks or so for the bottle , which is a bit spendy , but i tried it out , didn't really do a great job with it since i was in a rush to finish before work , but I'm really really impressed with the stuff. it leaves the paint ridiculously smooth , and a very nice deep gloss for a synthetic wax. Its supposed to last for months and i guess i'll find out , but even if it doesn't the way the paint feels after a few days is wonderful , i wasn't as impressed initially , but now i swear by this stuff already. Anyone looking for a good wax ( even though technically it isn't wax being synthetic) i recommend this. I'll get pics up some time this week.

Anyone else used it or have another product they use and would like to tell about , which to use , which to avoid? i think it will be nice to have this thread as a reference.

AA- I searched for wax and didnt find anything else , so I apologize if this isn't a new topic.

PostSubject: Re: Wax / Polish   Wax / Polish EmptyMon Sep 15, 2008 9:19 am

cant say i've tried it, but i have been hooked on the new nxt-2 wax and havent used much else since.
is that 3M a finishing compound with mild cleaners in it? or is it purely for protection?

Tony, have you had a chance to clay the car yet?

It doesn't really say much about cleaners..more about protection I think.

I haven't clay barred it yet , but after i waxed this time i thought about it and wish i had , especially if this lasts as long as it claims to.

I will second the NXT Tech Wax (synthetic). I love this shit, it goes with a little work, but man, it just glides right off and makes your car look (and feel) like a million bucks.

I still like to recommend a nice "cleaner wax" first, then the Tech-Wax over it - this combo seemed to make my paint stay lookin' good for over a month!

I have 2 cans of the stuff. I use it on the car, the glass, my toolbox, etc etc. I think it works pretty good! Although, I bought one can for $25 and got another for free....
I like it cause you don't have to wash the car to use it. It's great for those "in between" times when the car really doesn't need a full blown wash. Gets everything all nice and shiny too!

Robo:

This stuff does a good job on a "CLEAN" car. However, I would never use any waterless product on an even moderately dusty car (much less one that was dirty). I suggest you wash your car first and blow water out of all the crevices which might be holding water with your compressor or shop vac BEFORE you apply FW1 because it does not like water.

Do that...and I think you will be quite pleased. wink

I use this most of the time. It does leave a bit of an oily residue if you use to much but no white powdery residue like your typical waxes. On a black car like mine it makes a noticeable difference in the amount time spent cleaning up any white powdery stuff. cool

I like Meguiars Products. and over the past summer I tried that Ice also... not a bad product, however it needs a polished surface to start with. I tried to shortcut on a work truck and found that pre-polishing is a must.

I hear ya on the pre-polish, I actually do the 3 step Mothers polishing process they offer at the begining of each summer when I get it out of the garage. Step 1 Pre-wax cleaner, Step 2 Sealer and glaze, Step 3 Carnuba wax. I use an obital buffer to remove the dried wax and a soft bristled toothbrush to remove the residue around the emblems, trunk lid gaps, door gaps, hood gaps, etc. Aswell as Mothers RVP on the ground effects, dash. Also use NO TOUCH tire cleaner. Then when it looks like it could use a good shine afterword instead of re-doing the whole process I opt for the turtle wax ice to save time. Call me lazy but it takes me like 4 hours to do the 3 step, although i do the RVP and NO TOUCH everytime regardless. sad

Wax / Polish Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wax / Polish   Wax / Polish EmptyWed Jan 25, 2012 7:05 pm

wash with any decent car wash liquid and clay bar per clay bar directions

http://www.lifeowood.com/ (nourishes paint, goes LONG way, can mix with water to lube for claybar)

http://www.3m.com/product/information/Perfect-It-Hand-Glaze.html (fills spiderweb swirls)

http://www.blackmagicshine.com/wet-shine-liquid-wax.php (top it off, use electric buffer)

any decent silicone spray or DOT 5 brake fluid to clean the excess wax off the plastic/rubber parts

allow 2.5 - 3 hours for the whole thing
