| Doesn't surprise me. Air pathways before the MAF are a 'tuned' thing from the OEM, so something as simple as changing the duct can throw off the MAF readings. So their answer has to be "we don't support that". Now, we know better having some experience in the matter. It will work, IF you have the right size. The only thing I'd be worried about is - Quote :
- 4” O.D. that will fit over a 4” tube
Huh? If it will fit over a 4" tube, that's a 4" ID. 4"OD might fit over a 3-1/2" tube. Somebody doesn't have their terminology straight.

Disappointed? Yes and no. I thought I would be pushing the limits with a 3.4" but I scanned all evening and I saw the same KR variance I did with the 3.6". I think my current set up could handle a 3.3" just fine and I haven't even put the 104 autolites in yet! Pedal is finally starting to feel juicy again. Missed that after all the exhaust mods. The new power definitely feels nice, tho!

I'm very curious to see how much a tune, 104s, and fresh fuel injectors will add to the current set up. I can finally say, my Riv is starting to perform how I've been wanting it to! Such an awesome car we have!!! Thanks, Scott. See you soon for an Abaddon tune!

| I was working on my FWI intake yesterday. Cut the hole open into a blob circle w/ 4.6" diameter, cleaned up the horn mount below and moved the horn above the FWI. After seeing the possibility of what deleting the turn signal could possibly offer, I was very tempted to just rip the turn signal out and only drive with a right signal. The idea seemed so lucrative. Last night and today were the first times I was able to scan for ambient and IAT temps with my cone and sensor actually in the fender well now. I was surprised to see when I started the car this morning that the ambient temp was 55F and the IAT said 53.5F! A little shade and cool steel will start you off right, I guess. As I started my commute and made stops at lights, I would see the IAT rise to ambient temps and drop back to ~-1.5F the ambient temp once I started moving! Before I cut the hole and dropped the filter, I would see IAT rise to up to 15-20 degrees the ambient temperature. Today, the IAT did not go 3+ degrees higher than ambient. Huge improvement. Once I started moving it took only seconds for the IAT to match the ambient's. I want to better insulate the fender well compartment and block off as much open space to the engine bay as possible. Heat resistant materials and some kind of foam to make it air tight while keeping the space as open as possible is the goal. The ultimate solution is getting a fresh current flowing in the space. I cannot think of a more optimal way than opening that turn signal wide open! | |

| Subject: FIRST QUARTER MILE RUN Sat Sep 28, 2013 1:23 pm | |
| So I went to Norwalk last night to run the 1/4 mile to see my time. What a flop! I didnt get to leave until 7:45pm, drove an hour out there, waited an hour for the slick tire cars and the jr dragsters to do their thing, then I finally got to go. I had NO idea what the hell I was doing. I get in line with the other DOT cars and I tried watching in front of me to see what the F is going on with the light tree. I saw the first 2 yellow lights light up for each car, then 3 more yellow lights, then green. ok! So i line up with this old man ginger in a chameleon painted cobra. I knew I was going to lose. We line up, the 2 yellow lights set, and then BAM BAM BAM GO! Like an idiot, i spin out with 0 traction, laughing because of the realization i let my nerves get to me i let off a bit then go back to the floor. HOLY SHIT! I WAS NECK AND NECK WITH THE COBRA!!!! NO WAY! Then, he left me.. I thought for sure I hit a 14-14.5 NOPE! 15.5! WTF TIRE SPIN! So I circle around, get my slip, and go back around for my 2nd run. "Sorry son, you only get 1 run. You have to wait for the next 2 groups AKA another hour to 1.5 hours wait to go again." WTF! NO! Fuck that I said, so i left and went home. I was so pissed because I knew I had a bad start for my very first run ever and I knew I could do better. My expectations totally let me down. I thought I would get to do at least 5 passes! NOPE. So here it is. My first slip ever. Me VS a Cobra. Got killed! | |

| Did you go around the water? Without sticky tires, you will spin. It is very difficult to get a good 60' with our cars, and that transmission will not like being hooked up solid. Best you can do is stall up on the converter, and just take your foot off the brake, and slowly go to the floor. If you can get a 2.0 or 2.1 60', that will be about as good as it gets. I see the Cobra had traction problems too. Look at his trap speeds. That car is pushing some HP. 94 MPH in the 1/8 and 121 MPH in the 1/4. That is a solid low 11 second car if it hooks up. My GS has run 11.67@ 115, 7.40@92 MPH at the 1/8 mile, with a 1.65 60' _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Yes, I did go around the burnout. I was just an idiot and slammed on it instead of easing into it.
I have never ever done that before. Ever. Always start with some brake and some gas then let off the gas and tween as fast as possible to WOT.
Thanks for the knowledge, Larry.

| I like your turn signal idea Charlie.I wonder if the current of air will kinda pass over the area? I mean it's kinda at an angle right? | |

| How big of a difference did you notice in the surface of the strip over normal pavement? Like, even though you did hammer it down because you were anxious, do you think you spun considerably less than if you would have just been on a normal street? | |

It should be sticky. They treat the surface with traction compound. If you walked on it with sanddles, you'd walk right out of them. It helps if you have sticky tires also. That takes a Drag Radial or Slick. First you need to heat them up, like in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcaczyzt1bY&feature=youtu.be Then the car will hook and go. The thing is, our transmissions are marginal for the job they do normally. A heavy car +big torque + perfect traction makes for the maximum stress on the weak link. That would be the transmission. Charlie, I would have lowered the pressure in my front tires to 25 psi. Might have helped a bit. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| In my experience with street nights at the track, if you aren't there when they open, you are only going to get 1 or 2 runs. Our test and tune street nights tend to start out empty when the track starts running at 6 and you can get in 4 or 5 runs before 7, but then there are so many people you might get 1 more run the whole night (until 10). | |

Charlie, I would have lowered the pressure in my front tires to 25 psi. Might have helped a bit. I actually tore the sole off one of my shoes walking on the track at Norwalk! Running a good time isnt really worth shredding my transmission to me, so i think ill just lower the pressure in my street tires and slip a bit rather than put on slicks.

| HP Tuners pro + Wide band for ~$750
or
XP Cam + supporting upgrades (140# springs, double timing chain, etc) + install + dyno tune for ~$2,200
I want to get the tuner soon/now but when I look at the price of the cam + install, I kinda want to skip the tuner for now and put the money towards the cam.
Can anyone help push me one way or the other?

| A cam is a KR killing (breathing) mod. You will need to tune for it, but a wideband isn't necessary for the basics. Wideband is good for tuning for HP after everything is set up. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
