| My 98 riv at times has a heck of a vibration/noise when going from reverse to forward with a change of direction. The vibration comes compleatly through the steering wheel. Now I notice it will do it on heavey acceleration from a dead stop such as at a stop light. Is it cv joints or what???? | |

| Could be one of the CVs. Is there any clicking when turning? Any noise turning in reverse? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| The traction control will make a buzzing noise when activated. Heavy throttle from a dead stop will certainly do it. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Thanks everyone, I dont think its cv problem as there is no clicking on turning. If i remember the motor mounts r ck by applying the brake and accelaration and watching the motor to see if it "jumps" Is this correct??? About the traction control it seems to have too much vibration for this bit I don't know. Would vibration be enought to shack the steering wheel?? Guess its possible. | |

| You check motor mounts by getting under the car and looking at them. If the motor Mount's bolt is not in the middle of the X of each mount, replace. The motor mounts last about 75K miles IIRC. | |

You can see the front mount and the passenger side mount by looking down into the engine compartment, but you will need a mirror to see in the side of the mount for checking it for fatigue or failure. You really do have to check the rear mount (mech might cal it a transmission mount) from underneath. What I suggest - consider having the next oil change done at a dealer where they put the car on a lift -- and have them check the mounts while they are at it. Note, even so, that it is best to check yourself because a lot of otherwise competent mechanics don't know what the Riv mounts are supposed to look like and cant tell that they are or are not wornout. You can also put the car in neutral and blip the throttle with your finger, if the engine rocks too much in the cradle it's time for new mounts. Too much is more than about 1.5 inches or so.
