I replaced the SC snout with a rebuilt one, but rattle is still there.  Probably not a total waste though because I noticed an oil leak a few times around the SC pulley, so at least I have new seals and bearings along with my new coupler.  But I don't know how to eliminate the noise.  Maybe I should look/listen closer to the other pulleys.  Any thoughts?

Take the belt off the SC, and run the engine long enough to see if the rattle is still there. If so, the rattle is in the engine. Maybe a rod bearing.

Ok, after reading tons of this thread, I may have a coupler worn. I just heard it today at idle, and my engine was warmed up. It indeed sounds like a rock tumbling party, not loud but distinct. My question is, does this tend to also create an electrical "smell"? Haven't checked the oil yet, just wondering if this smell should be a concern or is just associated with a worn coupler?? I don't think it's an alternator bearing, but I could easily be mistaken.

Hmmm, alternator perhaps?? I'll investigate further as the week goes on...
