PostSubject: FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62?   FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62? EmptyThu May 10, 2007 11:45 am

Ok peoples i bought a rebuild kit for a bore with the bigger heads with the injectors in them just like the serries two's . As far as everyone has led me to belive in a couple of months im goin to strip down the engine. Bore it and rebuild it with new everything and swap to a m90 supercharger. I know all i would of had to off done was the new heads with the jectors with them in them to support the larger supercharger. Oh boy am i goin to have my hands full.

Wow, cool project. Might as well throw a performance cam in while you're at it.

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62?   FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62? EmptyMon Jun 11, 2007 3:01 pm

Just happen to catch this, So according to you thread you have a series one supercharged and want to modify it to accept a newer M90 supercharger compared to your M62.

I am going to point out a few obsticles for you so you can be prepared for what lies ahead.

-1. The m90 supercharger is 1/3 bigger than the m62 and your injectors will not clear the s/c. On the series one the injectors go into the Lower intake manifold. On the series 2 they go into the heads themselves. So you will have to modify the heads to accept the injectors.

-2. The port spacing and taller deck of the older series 1 engine will not allow you to use a series 2 Lower intake manifold. Thus making the mounting of the M90 even harder due to the fact of creating a custom lower intake manifold.

-3. Belt path on the m90 is Very diffrent from the series one.

-4. Tuning

I wish you the best of luck on the road ahead.

Two verry good points lets see Oldsman i do have the injector heads so that takes care of the injectors #2 i do know the intakes are diffrent i am goin with a low profile with intake. It will also be machined out for the intercooler hence why the mods im goin to do just dont have the funds for the rebuild yet hopefully will in a couple of months. Providin i dont have more paint issues with the car.

I didn't read your response till now.

Wait till you see how your pushrods lay when you try to bolt the Series 2 heads to the series 1 block. Thats if the head studs line up.

probably just needs a new coupler. it would be a lot of work to put a m90 on a series 1 motor. install alone isnt a direct fit, and the PCM would need to be swapped/upgraded. i dont even know if the belt routing for the s1 could work on the loner snout m90. but then again, i dont have a S1 motor to look at and compare.

you can get a m62 from ebay and such for pretty cheap, but 99/100 times the blower doesnt need to be replaced.

I've had the 2000 3.8 s/c for about a year now was doing a swap on my grand prix but ended up selling the car insted. The engin has 15,000 miles on it. Is the M90 a bigger s/c?

M90=90ci of air
M62= 62ci of air

you can get either blower used for like $250 or get it ported for $270 from wbs.($170 with core return)

wbs? Could you help me out here with a Name and Web address.

Never mind. W-Body Store!!!
I can be a little slow sometimes.
I'd like to port and polish this winter. LIM and SC.

Ricos20002; Are you interested in selling your Genll Sc, I'd like to try my hand at porting and polishing myself. Have the equipment, just need the experience without f@%&*%g it up.

Still interested in buying a GEN V though, if anyone comes across a good used one.

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62?   FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62? EmptySat Jun 20, 2009 9:26 pm

easily? probably not b/c there are a lot of differences in the 2 motors, not just the blower used.

safely? no (no way to tune or even scan a 95)

worth it? not in my opinion. a M62 puts out 62 cubic inches of air, while the m90 puts out 90ci. the m62 has a very small pulley on it, so it spins quite a bit faster than the m90. i doubt you would see much difference in power with the swap, especially considering the time involved in doing it.

come to think of it i dont think it is even possible without some kind of hybrid LIM. i dont think a m90 will fit on a m62 manifold, nor will a series 2 manifold fit on a series 1.

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62?   FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62? EmptyThu Jun 25, 2009 2:40 pm

You would need a hybrid or custom LIM. As for the gains. The gains would be huge.

Reason for the gain is the difference in chargers. The M90 pulley is 3.8" in diameter and the 92-93 M62 is 2.5 or 2.55" while the 94-95 is 2.8". From 92-93 to 94-95 a coating was added to the rotors increasing the efficency allowing the charger to be turned slower and provide the same airflow. The M90 turns even slower and provides more air.

The slower the charger turns the cooler the air charge, the cooler the air charge the less predetonation and cooler cylinder temps.

This is why I moved up to a Gen V M90. A buddy and myself tested how much more effiecient the Gen V vs Gen 3 M90's were by checking temp. His charger after the identical drive (him behind me) was over 100F hotter externally. Imagine being able to put your hand on the charger with the engine running. thumbsup

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62?   FAQ: M90 Blower In Place of M62? EmptyWed Aug 17, 2011 10:50 am

Short answer: tons of fabrication to do it, large difference in shape and footprint, m62 bolts to the alternator bracket.

Longer answer in this thread: (which this thread should be moved to)
https://rivperformance.editboard.com/t4338-faq-m90-blower-in-place-of-m62

And to add to that thread:
I was going to go with an m90 from a ford supercoupe, since its the shortest and matches the footprint of the m62 the best:
https://rivperformance.editboard.com/t7056-one-of-my-back-burner-projects
But since I have to fabricate so much anyway, I've opted to use the m112 from a Jaguar XKR.

For some of the possibilities for the m62 see this thread:
https://rivperformance.editboard.com/t7099-project-plug-silencer-holes-and-new-m62-porting

It should be noted that the genV m62 found on the Chevy cobalt is radically different. Also the Eaton TVS that matches the m62 only matches the cobalt one, so again would be complete fabrication to make work.
