| Also the bores in the valve body itself that each cylinder from the solenoids fits into get scored and require rework or replace the whole valve body. This happened to mine. | |

| The valve body contains a few valves and solenoids that control nearly everything in the transmission. A solenoid opens and the fluid flows through another passage then pushes a clutch piston to engage the clutches of the next gear. If the valve bores are worn and sloppy the fluid won't fill the area and engage the piston as quickly or fully as it should.
A valve body can typically be rebuilt/upgraded to all the latest stuff. However there are special tools required for some of the updates.

| I wonder how many miles AA has got on his stock rebuild now? It must be considerable. | |

| Yes, about 30,000 miles ago. I did not re-install the shift kit. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

Aaron, just what do you mean by "I did not re-install the shift kit" ??? A shift kit involves new springs internally in the trans. Or are talking about programming the PCM.?

| I meant the shift kit (springs and spacers) that were in my original transmission did not go back in with the rebuilt. I instead used PCM programming to achieve firmer shifts. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Oh, now I understand. When I had mine rebuilt I never requested anything "Special" be done other than boring and sleeving the valve body for the high pressure solenoid. I did not know of the performance parts available for the Riv at the time (pre Rivperformance member) otherwise I would have purchased a lot more stuff for this trans. Anyway, the rebuilder is a friend who has rebuilt countless 4T65E transmission's and is in the habit of using a certain clutch pack and shift kit on stock transmissions as it is supposed to extend the life of the HD trans.
He did not know I was going to purchase an Intense PCM, and neither did i at the time, but once I did install that PCM the shifts were horribly harsh presumably because of the combination of the shift kit and Intense's trans setting's. Eventually I removed the Intense PCM, put the stock one back in and after doing the current mod's to the engine Derek has programmed the PCM and Trans shift pressures, speed and points very nicely for my style of driving. I can't thank the deekster enough for what he has done with the DHP tuning on my car.
