Changing Out an ECM - 95 Riv Empty
PostSubject: Changing Out an ECM - 95 Riv   Changing Out an ECM - 95 Riv EmptyTue Oct 23, 2007 11:39 am

I believe my aftermarket ECM is bad in my 95 Riviera 3800 due to it getting wet/damp from a leak in the dash area - and I have no spark.

A friend of mine works in a junkyard and he just got me one out of a 95 Riviera 3800 (same exact car) that was just brought in but was hit.

I plan on changing out/swapping ECM's. Do I need to switch PROM chips out or should I just pop the new ECM in with its current PROM and forget about it?

Any help would be appreciated!

Use the PROM chip that is in your car right now. The junkyard car may have had some differences, so it's best to use what you have.

I agree with you but was told by a mechanic if for any reason the PROM in the ECM that may be bad or was shorted out as a result of moisture etc. and I use that shorted out/ruined PROM in the replacement ECM, that could short out/ruin the replacement ECM.

Any truth to this?
