I've found that sometimes going knockoff on exhaust parts is not so bad. That's one thing I hate about Magnaflow, Borla, etc. Some of that stuff is retardedly expensive for no reason but the name. Go online and look around and there's other stuff out there that's just as good if not better sometimes that's just missing a lot of marketing and cost markup. A freakin mass-produced stainless steel tig-welded sheet metal housing with some common absorption material shoved in it does not need to cost $100+ each. I talked to a couple tech reps from Magnaflow on the phone back when I was researching their 'XL turbo 3-chamber' muffler and because it wasn't their big money making go-to product, they knew nothing about it.

I checked at Solo-Performance to see if they were in fact using J-pipes on their Camaro exhaust kits. Looks like they are:
FWIW Melissa has a Solo performance turbo-back on her Sky. Build quality is awesome, and they installed it for free.

So I have a 96 s/c and I've been reading that neither the Hogan or zzp downpipe bolts up it must be welded is that true? If that's the case im gonna bring my muffler, resonator, and downpipe and have a shop weld 2.5 in piping back the 96s are quite the oddball so far

Has anyone messed with the Varex adjustable mufflers?
You can have them as far open/closed as you want allowing for fine tuning of the sound and performance. I wonder if you could also pull the exhaust off of a newer Corvette with the active system and make it work.

I was reading more into these. You can tie them in to the car's electrics and have them open/close at certain revs.
Edit: They're friggin' expensive.

Our, you know, you could spend like $150 and build your own with QTP electric cutouts.
Or try out the Dynomax VTs like I did. Has a little spring flap in them that opens under high throttle. Doesn't sound that shabby. Wasn't really that worth it for me since I can't hear *anything* over the supercharger.

well i got my exhaust welded up today along with my hogan dp and i have to say it sounds great, very deep with very little rasp, its a simple setup, 2.5 piping from downpipe back to a single 18in case jones full boar muffler no resonator. at wot it doesnt get raspy at all, only when revving in park itll pop and buzz but it sounds neat in person, i need to get a soundclip ill borrow a nice camera from my buddy oh yeah how do you post pics?

I found a nice study on backpressure for our engines. The exhaust layout isn't exactly the same, but I'm sure it's close enough to be relevant to what we have. If this is in the wrong place or has been posted before I'm sorry.

dudes, Ive been thinking about cat back exhaust and I am planning on some radical mods.
I would like to dump the exhaust out behind the doors and in front of the rear tires.
I took the image from the 1st page and photochopped it to better explain. The Y pipe and the exhaust tips would be reused. it would cut a chunk of weight out from the back of the car which i think would be helpful too.
It would be uber cool to mod the rocker panels to nicely french in the exhaust tips.

IIRC the Y starts after the rear tires. In other words, you would have to get a new Y that is right next to the resonator. The problem then becomes where you would put the mufflers. If I were you I would just cut everything off from the cat back and start fresh. Maybe put in a longer resonator to make up for the smaller (or even nonexistant) mufflers. If you're feeling really crazy you could put the Y right after the cat and make the sidepipes Viper style.

So ZZP told me today that the zzp 3" DP I have will not work with their headers because the rear header is longer than the stock manifold and I will need the header downpipe to make it work.
WTF WHYYYYY?! could it be engineered no other way?
so,,, Anyone interested in my DP? Matt, you still want the plog with a ring crack around the primary? Anyone want a ZZP ceramic crossover?

All of those bolt-on DP's are designed for stock manifolds. The rear header is like 2" long.
Absolutely stupid that you have to buy a "DP" for their headers. Every other header kit is complete.....

Yes, and don't even try to modify the Riviera tube. The w-body is one is cheap enough and fits perfectly.

When I changed the xspower headers for the zzp, I attempted to bend the w body tube and it absolutely didn't work at all. I wouldn't recommend trying. If I knew better I would have just measured it out, cut it, and used the hose from the start. That works fine. I'm still curious as to weather the original riv tube will fit with em. I didn't have one to check with.
