Doesn't matter, just plug it while you've got it off. It doesn't take long. I don't think I even had to jack up the car.

FAQ: Fuel Filters Empty
PostSubject: Re: FAQ: Fuel Filters   FAQ: Fuel Filters EmptyWed Mar 14, 2007 7:35 pm

there is only so much fuel that will come out when you change it. it dont matter weather it is empty or full. when you finish turn the car key half way to let the fuel pump push more fuel into the lines. it will be fine. im changing mine friday. i like the fram ones.

Yeah, are there any reccommended fuel filters? Or is stock the way to go? I know with the oil filter most will reccommend the bigger one, wondering if there is something like that for the fuel filter.

Use a stock filter. Someone at RegalGS.org bought one at Walmart and it started leaking!

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: Fuel Filters   FAQ: Fuel Filters EmptyThu Mar 15, 2007 8:54 am

Although I've never personally had a bad experience with Fram, I don't use them on my cars because they're among the cheapest you can get. I found this in the Wikipedia entry:

"There has also been some controversy about Frams use of average to below average oil filter medias and cardboard end caps which when compared to competitors of the same price range, may seem very lack luster despite working well enough to meet OEM Specifications."

Sorry, I'm going to pay a little extra and hope the better materials and construction pays off. What's the difference in price, a couple bucks?

See, I would rather go for the more expensive one. If it follows that more expensive = higher quality at least. Sometimes this isnt always the case.

There was a thread on regalgs.org from flyboy about fuel filters. He tried a few different ones and I think he found out that AC Delco was the best.

I'd be interested in seeing that test.

Trouble with some tests is, how do you interpret the results? How do we know what's "better"? I remember some guy cut up a bunch of oil filters and claimed some were better and some where worse, but then a lot of people were wondering how he arrived at his findings, and he really couldn't provide an answer other than it was his opinion. puzzled

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: Fuel Filters   FAQ: Fuel Filters EmptyThu Mar 15, 2007 11:47 pm

i have a napa gold for ~20k miles and i haven't had a problem with cloged injectors or bad mpg(when i drive nice).
i guess i will get the ac delco when i change it out here in the next month or so. its cost the same for the napa as the delco.

Fram makes the worst filters... Used to be a good product until AlliedSignal bought them out. I use A/C Delco filters or Purolator for the rest of my vehicles.

One has to be careful on how they access filters. There are many factors to be taken into consideration owed to the various offerings in each lineup. FRAM offers several levels of filters, as do some others. And you need to take into consideration that these brands can also re-box other suppliers' filters. So unless Bob the oil dude is absolutely current with each brand's executive departments, he and others have no idea of the contracts or internal manufacturing changes are being executed in real-time, and what each contract/manufacturing change might represent to each filter. In other words—things change.

Do we have a write up or tut for fuel filter replacement? I thought I saw one floating around. I don't think it has pics but I could add them when I find the write up.
