PostSubject: Re: PF 52 oil filter?   PF 52 oil filter? - Page 2 EmptySun Nov 22, 2009 11:18 am

I saw one of these in a bike shop and am looking into putting one on the Riv if they do one that fits.

I was impressed with the flow rate (at cold) and the by pass valve... i didn't until then realise initially the oil bypasses the filter until a certain viscosity is achieved.

Oh, and to revisit a debate we had a few months ago, I put my foot to the floor with the key off, then cranked the motor until I got oil pressure. I had to do four 10-second cranks before the oil light went out, and the injectors stayed off until the last crank when I released the throttle after I got oil pressure...
Are you filling the new filter with oil? When I change mine, I just start up the engine, never had the oil pressure light stay on more than a second.

I just looked at the manufacturer's site and saw that they have a filter to replace ours. (PF-52 and equivalent)
Now I have to find out if I can source one at a wholesale price from a Motorcycle shop that I have a relationship with.
I do not know if they have an account with a distributor, but I will find out.
An excellent product that comes from the aviation industry.

On a Chevy with a vertical filter, yes... On this thing - what, are you kidding me? confused

I'd guess it's mounted at about 75º. You can fill a PF-52 up about 3/4 full and install - even with the front end up on ramps.

Interesting... I would have sworn it was near vertical yesterday. Perhaps it was higher on my jackstands than on ramps.

Correction: I meant near-horizontal...

I 2nd that, I fill my oil filter about 3/4 full before installing it. Once in a while I'll go too far and a few drops get out, but as long as I start spinning it quickly it never drips too much. I'm right there with a rag anyway... My oil light goes out very quickly on startup post-filter change with this method. I've been doing it for as long as I've been changing my own oil. Hmm, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've NOT changed my own oil.

Been using the PF-52 for years. Always fill it 3/4 of the way as mentioned. Oil light goes out instantly.

On my GS455, I use a System1 reusable filter. It has a stainless steel mesh filter that you clean and reuse. The filter comes apart very easily and seals with O Rings. Been using it for 8 years plus. When I bought it, they were about 85.00, now they are about 130.00. I'll have to see how it fits on the Riv.

PostSubject: AC Delco oil filter update   PF 52 oil filter? - Page 2 EmptyFri Mar 16, 2012 4:12 pm

The venerable PF52 oil filter will be phased out and replaced with a PF52E,according to ACDelco customer service. The PF52E will provide a tad more filtration over the PF52 and its outward appearance is changed somewhat in design.
Otherwise will bolt right up to the series 1 & 2 engine

could even be as simple as a supplier and design change. Thinking about it if you do the design right you could probably cover a **lot** of car models with a handful of filter cores in a fairly wide variety of cans if you used good filter media.

Well, I'm just gonna' stick with my long, higher-filtration-area WIX/NAPA filters...

WIX 51036 & NAPA GOLD 1036

FYI, I just found this interesting page;
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-general/2646467-ac-delco-pf46-e-what-is-the-e-about.html

Kinda' sounds like they realized that their filters weren't all that they could be... or else they're worried about the so-called "environment"... rotf

I get it. Have to cut one open because they've gone to plastic or paper end caps inside the filter.

Mmmmmm-kay.

I agree with you on the Wix/NAPA, Wix and Purolator filters are fine. Champion makes the cheapie filter for Walmart that's actually a good filter too.

I bought a case of these,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WIX-51036MP-Oil-Filter-/330840011746?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d0799f3e2&vxp=mtr

The Wix 51036 is the equivalent of the AC PF-52, and it is a better filter.

Dealer has them still. Not sure why they'd get pulled from a parts store shelf.... And yes, They're PF52E now. For some reason Delco added an "E" to all their "old" filters. (PF47E, PF52E, PF61E, PF46E)
