| When I had the engine rebuilt at 246k miles, the original crank and cam position sensors went right back in. At 273k now and haven't had an issue. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Question:
Every summer I seem to get CPS codes, but they always go away once the weather cools off. Today I had my first time having issues starting the car after getting the code. It was only once, and it fired up just fine before and after that. Any ideas why the codes would go away when it gets below the blazing hot summer temps?

| Guys, how come the original manual doesn't even mention replacing the CPS as a possible solution for the P0336 code? There are only 3 options: fix damaged wire, replace ICM or replace ECM. | |

When they wrote the manual the engineers probably were not anticipating this failure. I was told that but for aging problems that are different from what can be created in simulated product aging, the CPS would not fail. I was told the problem is that the sensors have internal electronic connections that may fail after certain aging and thermal cycling. When the typical failure occurs, they make when they cool off and break when heat soaked.

| I chased this problem for two years and had the same intermittent P0336 code. It turned out to be a black cam sensor wire in the main harness connector underneath the brake booster was broken underneath the plastic. | |
