A CASE learn basically synchronizes the crank and cam position sensors. It should be done after a PCM installation or crank or cam position sensor replacement, or camshaft installation.
It can be done with DHP PowerTunr, HPTuners or any GM dealer with a TECHII and a nice service guy.

| It's safe to drive. Worse you can get in the area of the MAF sensor is inoptimal fuel economy / performance and perhaps a MIL on. If I remember right, the computer runs some kind of safe set. | |

| For what it's worth, I have re-written my PCM at least 50 times, and have never performed a CASE learn. | Aaron, you can do that as long as you are continuing to use the same PCM. It's only after a replacement you are supposed to do it.
Some people have never had to do it. Others have endless problems until it's been done...

| According to DHP, you are supposed to do it when you do a full rewrite, or if you get an SES light telling you to sync. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Your clue is that it stopped for a while when you "messed" with the spark plugs. I had the p0341 CPS code for something like a year. Changed the sensor twice. Changed plug wires and the ICM and coils. Tested ALL wiring from the PCM to the ICM and sensor (even put it under load with a 12volt halogen bulb). Ordered a new crank sensor, but the old one tested ok. Then I decided to do a minor tune up. Changed the front plugs and then drove it. No more p0341!!! The plugs that came out looked just fine, normal color, minor wear, no ash, no stray carbon tracks. They were, however NGK plugs. Put in 605 platinums and no more problems with cam sensor. Go figure. | |

| Did you happen to notice if the NGK's ends were unscrewing and causing the issues? | |

| Can't say that I specifically looked for that. I honestly did not expect plugs to be causing that problem and only did a tuneup type inspection of the plugs. I was talking with one of our technicians he thinks it might have been an internal short in the plug, sending a spike through the ground path and giving a false signal to the ICM | |

| If it keeps persisting you may have lost your cam shaft interrupter. It is a magnet held into the cam sprocket but some plastic clip deals. This will throw a bad Camshaft position sensor code. There is a write up some where on how to fix it without taking the timing cover off and using JB weld. How ever in my experience Oil+Heat+JBweld= not so good. You can check for the interrupter by taking off the sensor and slowly turning the engine over by hand and use a mirror to look through the hole at the cam gear. If you see a hole with some plastic bits and debris around, gg. If you see a whole with a little black magnet cylinder shape still in it, nice you don't have to pull the timing cover! | |

| I'm having a p0341 code pop up and I remember somebody having this same code and there was a thread about it but I can't find it and its not popping up in the search.
Does anyone remember this or have any info on the code?
I have changed the cam sensor and the codes still popping up.

| Camshaft position senor circuit performance is what i pulled up on my mitchel repair disk. there is about 25 steps to diagnose it. it looks like it will be a fun one to fix cause it starts off with disconnecting the pcm harness to test the voltage between the censor harness and the pcm conector. if you want me to send you the steps lemme know your email and i'll send it. | |

| this is what all data says,"The camshaft position PCM input is produced by the ignition control module. The Ignition Control Module (ICM) produces the camshaft position PCM input by filtering the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor pulses when the engine is running and Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor sync pulses are also being received. The PCM uses the camshaft position PCM input pulses to initiate sequential fuel injection and to determine crankshaft position for the misfire diagnostic. The PCM constantly monitors the number of pulses on the camshaft position PCM input circuit and compares the number of camshaft position PCM input pulses to the number of 18X reference pulses and the number of 3X reference pulses being received. If the PCM receives an incorrect number of pulses on the camshaft position PCM input circuit, DTC P0341 will set and the PCM will initiate injector sequence without the camshaft position PCM input with a one in six chance that injector sequence is correct. The engine will continue to start and run normally, although the misfire diagnostic will be disabled."
i personally prefer my mitchell on demand disk but i let my buddy borrow it. so pretty much if the camshaft positioning sensor is not reading about 5 volts then replace the sensor. if you know someone with a scanner that can read live measurements have them hook it up to see what the voltage is on the cmp or camshaft position sensor.

| if I had the step by step diag. for my car 96 Riv SC would not need snap-on scanner just a volt meter and test light. Just for kicks, the sensor is new. | |
