| With time alignment you better know what in the hell you are doing.
Ive only had one unit with this feature, a Pioneer 880PRS. It was a decent deck dont get me wrong. The Auto Time Alignment was very nice. It sounded very good also, in the drivers seat. Everywhere else sounded like dog chit.
If you desire time alignment and are on a budget anything with a 0-180 degree phase alignment know will work.
PPI has an older unit that does this job and well. Its time alignment on a budget, about $125ish used or so.
The Alpine 700 as suggested is a $400+ investment.
Is it worth it? Hell yes if you got the rest of a system to back it up.
Talking $40 speakers, then no, no its not. If you got a $500 or more set of speakers up front, then sure...

| So far I prefer 4 speakers with no time alignment to 2 speakers.
I'll see how it sounds when I get all 4 Quarts in. I'm doubting this is worth even $125 to me.

| In case anyone's interested in what I did with the doors - Got a couple pieces of foam rubber behind the Xovers to fill in the arm rest space and keep them from rattling around. Easiest way to do it I could up with. | |

2,4,5 it doesnt matter. When you use time alignment its directed to the driver. Which means anyone else in the car isnt getting NEAR the same sound as the driver. Time Alignments good when your the only person in the car though. I was demoing my Saturn and the guy was like man this sounds horrible. I was shocked... So i went and sat in the passenger seat and I agreed. I turned time alignment off and bam. Sounded still good, but you could tell the delay at that point. And complaining about the quarts and $125 investment? You went from what Infinity to the Quarts all the way around? No amp or amped? You may not notice a world of difference until you are amped. If you are coming from stock there will be a remarkable gain in SQ and overall tonal accuracies. Not to mention improved mid bass.

I went from infiniti reference coaxials to the quarts and was very impressed. I have a sony HU powering the speakers , and a 200w kendwood 10" sub . I think he went from stock and is still running the stock HU IIRC.

I expected a little more but I accept that my expectations were unrealistic for not having an amp. I'll get an amp in eventually, but it'll have to wait until after headers and f-body brakes. But it will happen.

| Yea there is a few people that bought these and installed them hard to remember who had what with out re-reading everything.
With the stock head unit there should be a noticeable improvement.
The real improvements come when you get some clean power to them though.
Thats when any good speaker shines.
Its not something thats going to knock your socks off. That kind of impression is what you get when you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars...

| I'll put an amp in, but not until the heat and humidity breaks. I don't want to be working inside a car in this weather. | |

| Just got mine in the mail and will install shortly. Ok, I have the first one installed with the tweeter set a -0 and I am running the speakers with a Pioneer DEH6600P. I tried to fish wires through the door boot but hell if there is any room so I ended up installing in the door panel like Jack did and it works great. However, I'm not to impressed with the sound over the stock speakers but I won't know for sure until I get the passenger side installed. I ended up dremeling the plastic out of the door panel and was able to install the cover back on so no one can tell I have MB Quarts in the doors. I'll take a picture later of what it looks like. | |

| Give them a chance - they'll definitely play more sounds than the stock speakers will. I can listen to music I gave up on playing through the stockers. The magnets on the Quarts are so much heavier than the stockers though, I think the stock head unit has trouble powering them. | |

| Got my Crutchfield adaptors today. The instructions are a mess! (click lil image for big image) There are only half as many fat black screws as needed to install as the instructions say, and if you do it as the instructions show the speakers will fall out of the adaptor. I can't even guess what the small nuts and bolts are for. They have a blank head too, i.e. not phillips/flat/torx etc. Just a blank flat head. The instructions don't even list them as being included in the adaptor kit. I installed the speakers like this, using the clips to hold the speakers to the adaptor - Does that look good to everyone? I suppose I'll be mounting the adaptors to the car via whatever is already there. On to the new Quarts - On the woofer there are wires soldered onto the second set of prongs, going into the speaker. On the tweeter, there's a 2nd set of prongs, but no wires going into the speakers. Is that right? | |

| What do you mean by "second set of prongs"? I assume there is a pair of connectors on each side of the speaker basket, one for woofer, one for tweeter. Look closely at the tweeter connections. You should see a set of tinsel wires soldered somewhere to the terminals. Try disconnecting the woofer. Leave the tweeter connected (via the crossover). Do you hear it working? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| The ones the arrows are pointing to - I didn't see any wires running from those wires. I'll look at them again tomorrow. I wasn't planning to put them in the car until Sat. night at earliest, but more likely the middle of next week. | |

| I would follow what AA suggested, hook up the tweeter and listen for sound. I am sure the tweeter is connected and works. Make sure that you don't feed too much bass to the woofers, or you might break the tinsels. I have done that before and it isn't much fun trying to fix it (if you can). _________________ 1998 Supercharged Riviera - Custom CAI, Alpine spx-13ref, Infinity 6x9's, Alpine 4 Channel Amp, Kicker KX3, Silverstars, STB, Hawk Brake Pads, Monroe Air Shocks, KYB GR2

| Will turn the bass down a bit . . .
I looked at the new speakers today, no sign of wires at all coming from the tweeter prongs. They must be going inside. I see no sign at all that these speakers were ever molested in any way. The other set had spots on the speaker grill where the paint had been knocked loose, these are perfectly clean. I wonder what their history is - maybe they didn't sell back in the day or the box was damaged. I find it hard to believe they were ever used. They even came with little stick on MB Quart tags that were never stuck on.

| Jack, I have one speaker in my hand as I right this and I have a black and red wire coming from the tweeter to those prongs you have pointed to. There is no way they are internally wired. | |

| Well I just asked to swap them. I noticed he's got a "sold as-is" warning up. I don't remember seeing it before, did anyone else?
Since I was planning to use them in the back I suppose I'm o.k. however this turns out, but if he says "sorry, as-is" we need to get a warning of our own in the first post of this thread. "Buy at your own risk, and there is a risk."
