| we were leaving a place today...and he didnt close the door all the way. i gas it to make a uturn..and the door flies open. now the door doesnt close properly. i imagine he bent the hinges. like it opens and closes...but it must be catching on something near the where the edge where the door handle meets the body. im so pissed. any thoughts on how to fix this? | |

| yes. eye the body lines where they meet. between the door and the fender. after determining where the gap is prouder, loosten the bolts. depending if the gap is wide at the top or the bottom. after loosening the bolts just bump the door back in place. and she should square right up. if this is unclear write back. but its a piece of cake | |

That's what I'm wondering. Sorry about your trouble mate. You ever wonder if people treated horses the way they treat cars, a hundred years ago? As important as a car is, it's hard to believe how little respect most people give them.

| usually the door just torques out of its line. its a simple matter of realigning the body lines. the same thing happened to me but the guilty one was a gust of wind. and the door hinges are stout steel. they rarely bend. | |

| The hinges wouldn't bend, but either the door itself bent or the pillar the hinges are bolted to bent. My guess is the pillar, but either way there is some adjustment in the hinges, so you should be able to correct most of it.
Good luck! | |

| if the gap is at the top loosen the top bolts. firmly push the top of the door, might have to give her a nice nudge, and close the gap. should work. if anything is bent i should be able to see that. cracked paint, bulging metal,puckering,...if nothing bent, just keep working it its a pia but you can fox it | |

i tried that. that was the first thing i did..try and force it back. didnt see any bulgin metal. didnt see anything cracked. my car is going in for a coupler change and the cam sensor error next week or so. ill just say the door is sticking and have the guy loook at it. funny u mention that karma. me and my friends goal is to actually be able to pick up a front end and move a car. we figured if we can squat or deadlift 600 each..we could do it easily. i can only deadlift around maybe 300 calmly. maybe 350-400 with adrenaline ONE time.

Many years ago I drove a Mercury Lynx (basically a Ford Escort in a polo shirt). I went to a car wash and accidentally locked the keys in ti, running. They guys working the car wash were local high school football players, and I was in pretty good shape too (I can still leg-press the entire stack of weights on a Nautilus machine). We picked the car up by its bumpers and carried it our of the wash lane until my dad could bring the spare keys out. With the Riv you'd have to figure out how to get a grip on the bumper brace bars. And the Riv (~3600 lbs) weighs about twice what the Lynx weighed (~1800 lbs). I would not try it on the Riv at all, I do not thing the fun is worth the risk or aggravation. Why not don't and say you did (JK)? Albertj

| It took four of us with 2 extras to spot. We lifted the car by the bumpers at the bumper mounting struts. The extras followed us at middle of each bumper in case of a problem but did not lift. I called cadence. We did straight snatch like in weightlifting, first locking arms straight then lifting car with legs. moved the car in shuffle steps, in careful unison, 6-8 inches per step, put it down in unison. Probably the only reason it worked is those football players knew how to lift and knew how to follow directions 'cause if someone screwed up it would probably have hurt.

| this reminds me of a funny story from the high school days - our youth group teacher always drove econoboxes, started back then with a Datsun 210... over the years moved up to a geo metro. anyway, one of our favorite gags was to turn his car sideways wherever he left it. Once, years and years after youth group was long ended, I went with a friend who had been in the group with us to visit him (hundreds of miles away). He had a garage with an opener, and was very proud that he had a place to park his car. We found the opener he had hidden in his kitchen, and in a time when he was busy, we opened the garage, turned his geo metro sideways, closed the garage and it was like nothing happened... Turned out he didn't try to go anywhere until two days later... That was one of the funniest phone calls I ever got. He got it out with a 17 point turn... | |

| One thing that's Not Funny At All is something I heard while traveling, about people tipping Smart cars on their sides for fun.. Turns out they have a relatively high center of gravity; if you take advantage of that in a certain way you don't need help to tip them over. 2 or 3 people can easily do so.
Whatever you do, please don't do that, don't help do that and please actively discourage others from doing so as long as that discouragement does not endanger yourself. This is, however, very useful to know in case you need to defend yourself and one of those very light vehicles is involved somehow.
