FAQ: Rims, Wheels that Look Good on the Riv

Don't like 'em, sorry.

Do you have any other suggestions that might fit better?

The Riv is a hard, hard car to find rims for. Good hunting!

I want the factory Buick Lucerne rims, they come in 17 and 18, but Ive only seen a handful with the 18s on them, I believe its the CXS model.

yeah those were nice too. i saw a guy with the SSEi Bonneville rims on a riviera at the casino. sadly to say, with the exception of a few people there arent too many NICE rivieras in the city.

I also like the rims for the newer Buicks. The one above is my favorite at the moment. I have the 7 spoke chrome factory rims, which I like, but if I did make a change, I think these would look great on the Riv.

thats the pic i was looking for. they come on Buick Lucernes and I think Lacrosses. Forget it, Im having the goons green light me a pair ASAP I want to be first with them!

Those Look Alright But Im Kinda Digging My Stock Chrome rims

The only thing wrong with the stock chrome 7 spokes is that the size is out of style. If 16's were still the biggest rims out there they'd be great.

I like my Borbet Type Es, but you can't buy em new anymore, I think Borbet stopped making them. This is a 17" with 245/55/17s, a little shorter than the stock wheel and leaves a little more gap. It's also an 8" wide rim, so you need a wider tire. Doesn't stick out beyond the side of the car though:

Those do look good, and totally believable as a stock rim.

Agreed. Also, does anyone play the NFS games or Forza games and notice how good some of those rims seem suited for the Riv? Too bad our cars aren't in-game...

how much is it to get rims dipped in chrome anyways? where would you take them?

Maybe someday, depends how much it would cost and how much it would inconvenience me. I'd rather see how durable they are over time first, if they get bent up easily then it's not worth chroming them...

No, it's a new picture. You are seeing the original non-primered side I'm almost done with the LR Quarter though. It's finally smoothed out and we'll sealer-primer it next week.

You'd have to ask around your area to find who does chrome. Years ago I was told chroming ran $100 per old car bumper. I dunno how that translates to rims, bumpers are much bigger.

A top quality rechrome on an old car bumper will cost upwards of $500 these days. I got an oem-like rechrome last winter for the front on my 68, for $350. Decent chrome work is not cheap these days. If it's cheap, it's not worth paying for.

Yikes. That's a lot of money. I'm not surprised the price has gone up, there can't be much demand for it these days.

Plenty of demand. The problem is federal regulations have tightened on the use of some of the chemicals that have been used for decades in rechroming. The shops that want to comply can still do show quality work, at a price. The shops that can't afford to comply, turn out lesser quality work, that is still ok on a driven car.

In 2004 I had my rear bumper rechromed by insurance, cost of $400 for show quality work. I paid out of pocket for the front bumper last winter, oem quality for $350. My 68 is nice enough, but it's no show car, I DRIVE it.

I like the KMC Unit rim too. I knew a guy who had some on a Corvette with 19 in the front and 20 rear.
