As far as the For Sale sign.....lol. NEVER! It's 12 years old, I love it, and shit happens. It's just ironic that the timing these parts have for Fa!Ling. It seems every time I fix one thing, something completely unrelated goes.....pretty soon, the whole damn thing will be new, and then the process starts over lol. it's the warranty-period-or-10-year-150,000-mile-engineering-design-life thing. | Thx again for the heads up on that 150A Rick. Got one comin. It will be here tomorrow (not stocked). $147 for that bad boy (again, my price). The stock 140A was like $125. I'll pay the extra $12 for 10A more! EDIT: NAPA called back, the Alternator will be here by 5pm today! EDIT #2:Alternator in. All is well....now to fix them leaky trans cooler lines.

| Ya know, I always thought it was a characteristic of the Riv with it's mods, to make it to 215* sitting at a light with a 160* thermostat. I've been wrong lol. Given that our Radiator has a gap between it and the Condensor, but yet appears to be "sealed" with no possible way of intrusion, I find this..... Not to forget the cigarette butts and leaves/sticks that were embedded on the core support. The car barely reaches 200* now, and runs about 175* cruising. It's crazy what good airflow can do | |

| You're so right... Mine wasn't that bad, but for some reason I pulled the top support not long after I bought my car, and found the same thing. After I cleaned it out, it started obeying the thermostat. | |

Would that be as simple as pulling the top panel off and using a wetdry vac with a nozzle, or do I have to drain/pull the radiator for this cleanout? Albertj

| You'd have to pull the radiator out to clean it good. The space between the Rad and Condenser is only about 1/2". That's why I'm surprised all that chit built up in there like that. | |

OK thanks. I think I will pull the panel and inspect then decide. Albertj

| I didn't pull the radiator... I think I just blasted in through the radiator & condenser fins, then down and out from the top, with a garden hose nozzle. | |

| Subject: Leaking Coolant - Any Ideas? Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:45 am | |
| Whats going on everyone. Here my little/major problem.
I have a coolant leak from which appears to be in the front of the motor. I replaced the radiator about 2 years ago and that seems fine as there is no coolant directly under the radiator and all of the hoses seem dry and ok. The coolant reservoir is clean and doesn't appear to be mixing with oil. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Whats located in the front of the motor that would leak coolant?
Thanks

| I dont think a picture would help much but this may give some of you a clue.
I let the car warm up for awhile and the top radiator hose is warm but the bottom one is as cold as when I started the car.

| I'd try bleeding the system once, there's a valve on top of the thermostat housing. I ran into this with mine as well | |

Thanks | |

| I opened it up, ran the car until it stopped belching and spitting air out of the valve, closed the valve when it was spraying straight coolant, turned the car off.
I don't do anything right though, I'm sure someone will correct my procedure for you.
what was happening with mine was the coolant was ending up in the overflow, and then onto the ground, once I got the air out it stopped leaking.

Thanks Follow the top rad hose to where it meets the engine, that is the thermostat housing and on top of that is the bleeder valve.

| Subject: week old coolant leak, gettin bigger Wed Oct 17, 2012 5:53 pm | |
| So I didn't realize I had this leak until today. For about a week, coincidentally about the time I took out my stock airbox for my spectre filter. After driving I'd notice a sort of rich cornoil scent and occasionally see white smoke seep out my hood at a stop. I'd always stop to check n it always appeared to be from tge drivers side so I figured the oiled filter was just breaking in or something....obviously not though. Yesterday my low coolant light came on for a minute or so, so I added some dexcool. Now today the leak is clearly visible. It seems to be pooling here at the end of this hose (not from the hose but rather the metal mount?? Though not 100% on that) it pools there and overflow drips down the side of the engine down to the bottom.... My first reaction is just take it to my mechanic to fix...no idea the cost though | |

| Looks like you're about right on where it's leaking from. It seems a new thermostat seal and gasket is in order. Perhaps even a new thermostat, just in case?
One quick suggestion though, since I know my 3800 engines pretty good at this point. Check and make sure you're lower intake gaskets aren't at fault too. This happened to my Series II L67 in my Bonneville. Turned out the bolts weren't torqued down, causing coolant to pool in a similar spot.
Though, I think you just have a bad thermostat housing seal or gasket, or both.

| Have to agree with Andrew, you can clearly see the leak path in the photo. An easy, inexpensive fix. | |

| Under $15 to fix, and you can do it yourself in less than an hour. While you're at it, replace with a 180º t-stat - your first mod!
Question: if you are adding dexcool, why does the coolant look green? Might be good time for a coolant flush. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| Did a flush while I was at it to rectify the mix of coolant. (Old was not dexcool but was so low when I added the other day, I couldn't see to know) Ran to napa to get a new tstat, seal and gasket. Did the swap (my old seal had a gnarly chunk missing on one side!) and found that mine didn't now, nor ever had a gasket. In fact, the "correct" gasket won't even line up to fit. So we're gonna see if everything seals as it should be or not. If not, will have to make a gasket for it but I'm pretty confident that won't be necessary. | |

There is a gasket available and you can cut your own gasket from a sheet of gasket material but many RivPerformance members have found that the rubber ring that the thermostat (well, the OE thermostat) comes with is enough, if the mount surfaces are clean. Albertj
