| I think they're made of a type of urathane or similar plastic degrades from exposure to UV light. Usually there is a protective coating sprayed on at the factory to protect the surface, but the more you polish them, the coating wears away. Then they start to fog up from the inside.
You can buy replacements at the dealership. I think they're over $100/pair. Maybe someone who's replaced them can share more info. Mine are yellowed. I got tired of polishing them. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| www.gmpartsdirect.com for about $80/pair for the non-cornering versions. Got mine last fall, not installed yet though. All years part #'s are in the Riv FAQ. | |

| I replaced mine new from the dealer three years ago and they are just as yellow as before. They looked awesome for a while. It's hard to believe they can't build plastics to last longer than that! VERY FRUSTRATING. | |

| I use Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, that product is awesome. Mine lasted for a good 4 months before I decided it still wasn't good enough. Until I buy a new set, I'll stick with the erasers.
My cousin used to work for a used car guy, he cleaned headlights as best he could and the clearcoated the exterior, they swear by it but I'm sceptical.
On another forum someone bought new ones and said the company smartened-up and changed the type of plastic to that of the headlights. Any word on that brand?

| i use brass-o and 000 grade steel wool to remove the oxydized layer. then a good pollish of rain-x takes off some more yellow and helps keep them clean. i havent tried clear coat...hmmm:idea: _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | remove the single screw just below the lens and then pull the front of the lens straight away from the car then the back will come out
the socket comes out of the lens by turning it counter close-wise a quarter turn and the bulb will need to be pulled off the socket

Was it the one that you put on the drill? Thats the one I used. I took them off and did the inside and outside and it looked MUCH better but not like new. Do you have any pics of yours afterwards?

Do you have any pics of yours afterwards? No...No drill.needed. - Quote :
- Beware of kits that offer backing plates and drill attachments. While they may
save time, they may cause irreversible damage due to various drill speeds causing burning or swirls in the plastic lens. First-time users should avoid these headlight cleaning kits because it takes skill and practice to control the drill from making these mistakes and possibly slipping off and ruining a perfectly fine paint job. I'll try and find the brand name later today. Comes in a small plastic bag...not a box.

| This looks like the yellow cornering light solution we've been looking for (I don't want to spend $80 on a "stock appearance mod").
My question is, where did you find that in Wal-Mart? Automotive? Cleaning area? ....LAWN AND GARDEN?

| The verdict is in: this sh-it ROCKS. You feel ripped off at first. It's 20 bucks for 4 pieces of sandpaper, 1000 and 2500 grit, and 6 packages of cleaning stuff. From what I can tell, the CV-1 which is used for the "cleaning phase" is nothing more than polishing compound. However, the CV-2 is a clear material that hardens. I have no idea what this crap is, but this sealer is what gives your lenses that "new" appearance. If you were only to sand and polish without this last step, your lenses would be fairly hazy - more than you would like. Here's before and after: Looks great. Recommended to everyone - if you follow the instructions, I don't see how you'd screw it up. | |

| Final picture is in. I know that it's kind of dark, I've been taking all of these with my cell phone. You can see that the corner is very close to the color of the headlight, if not dead on. Thank god the headlight isn't plastic, this would have taken even longer. And I took 10 minutes PER lense, not for the whole job... lousy lyin' packaging... | |
