| I was the driver and something went wrong with the car and instead of going around a corner the steering locked up and i went straight over a bank and into a bunch of tree's. funny thing is, my brother wrecked this same riviera at the same spot last year, what does that mean? only his damage was fixable i dont think this is.... | |

| That's really sucks. You got a backup ride?
I liked your Riv cause it reminded me of the Buick Blackhawk concept (color).
I bet that corner is one of those 'balck holes' that were created by that British atom smasher machine.
If you throw in the Riv's 'R' logo, I wonder where it will spit it out.
But I feel for ya. I had a sucky thing happen to me with the Riv only 2 weeks before Christmas.

What did he "fix" the first time? Glad your ok, shaken and a bit bruised I'm sure. My advice would be to never drive that stretch of road again in a Riv since it seems to be cursed!

| well they had taken the car to a garage and the garage i guess ripped them off as to what was really wrong with it, and he fixed the tye rod end, and then the wheel bearing went to helll and he fixed that and i guess he thinks it has something to do with the rack and pinion or something, i ended up with some tickets and yess im extremely bruised to hell air bags deployed in my face and everything and im on crutches now | |

| one possibilty is the accessory belt idler pulley bearing froze - they need to be replaced from time to time - usually make noise beforehand - but only a pesky chirp - some owners react to the noise and some ignore it
glad you're alive, very sorry you're hurt

| and yea it kinda rolled, i was wedged between 2 trees so i couldnt even get out the doors or anything i had to crawl thru the back windsheild, air bags blew out the windsheild and the sunroof and all other windows blew out too it was pretty bad, but trust me ive got quite a few tickets coming from the deal...prolly enough to suspend my license although it wasnt my fault but because of all the motor damage after the accident i cant prove the car itself screwed up | |

| You're getting tickets for a one person wreck? I didn't know that was possible.
If the steering totally locked up I think you're brother is sniffing in the right direction. That kind of failure is not normal.

| Yikes! Glad to hear you are mostly OK. Rest up for a while! It sounds like a Rack & Pinion failure, but hard to tell of course. Could have been power steering pump failure, but that's unlikely - you would have noticed other symptoms of that going bad. Other possibilities - power steering hose failure, accessory belt failure (idler pulley?)...
I agree, how can they give you a ticket? No cops witnessed the accident, how could they know what happened? Should be easy to fight in court if you had to.

| Glad your safe man. That eerily looks like my first vehicle, a ford probe that I rolled down a hill and into a creek. Knocked me out cold and gave me a concussion and to this day sometimes my speech is garbled. | |

ridiculous - fight it in court, no problem. - xxxneeduwhenicry wrote:

also ridiculous - fight it in court, no problem. IIRC Florida doesn't even have mandatory safety inspections. - xxxneeduwhenicry wrote:

Unfortunately that one is easy to figure out by the damage to you... and always always wear a seat belt. Good luck! Glad to hear you made it okay and that you have another car ready to go!

| Speeding might be proveable by measuring the amount of distance it took the car to slow down, or plugging into the black box which, at least in newer vehicles, will record that kind of thing. I think the Riv does it too but I'm not sure.
When it comes to what caused the wreck, you should be innocent until proven guilty. I don't know what happened to that, it seems to have gone out the window lately.
