Its an Acronym for Wide Open Throttle or full throttle.

This whole thread has me curious, I'm gonna have to test this on mine, just for giggles.

I have noticed that when if I drain my oil with my car on ramps that not all of the oil will come out... now I just climb under there

OK guys, I have the last piece of this puzzle - I think rolleyes

I just did the 3rd test with my '97, parked overnight. Yesterday I did it at 140 and 185 degrees.

-If the key is in the 2nd unlocked position (Run) when I floor the gas, the car still starts.
-If the key is in the 1st unlocked position (Off), when floored, I get "WOT flooded-mode".
-If the key is in the Lock position when I floor it, I get "WOT flooded-mode".

I reproduced these results pretty faithfully all 3 times. Hopefully Burt, Aaron or Nate can also...

Ding Ding!! I remember now - that's how I remember it working on our '86... still haven't tried it on the '98 but I will soon. It's also how my old Holley ProJection worked.

I have mine up on a floor jack to change oil. I let it drain a few minutes jacked up, then I lower it almost to the floor and let it drain a while longer. There's ALWAYS going to be more old oil missed if you only drain it when it's raised way up.

That's more reason to change oil every 3k instead of waiting 5k or longer. You never get all the old out, so might as well dilute it with more frequent changes of fresh oil.

I settled on 4,000 miles a long time ago, even with the ever-improving conventional oil, and the semi or full synthetics... Also, I noticed something a couple years ago: When Mobil-1 came out they were always advertising 25,000 miles between oil changes, and even as a kid I told people, A) show me a car that won't burn or leak 1 quart in 5,000 miles, thus slowly 'changing' the whole crankcase over 25,000, and, B) the oil may last that long, but both the oil and the filter will be full o' shit by that time!
Now, they've cut their claims back by 10,000 miles - the most you see advertised on the bottles is 15,000...

I'm quite surprised these things are fairly easy to change the oil on. The filter is readily accessible and theres no obstructions to the filler neck. My dad likes Chrysler LHSs and I occasionally help him out and do it for him, those are a pain to get to the filter sometimes they seize up and you have to literally screw the socket to bottom of the filter. lots of fun gavel I used Castrol GTX 10W-30 and a PF-52 filter, great idea guys thanks. And to make Eldo happy I tested his theory and low and behold, no start with the pedal to the floor.

I also changed the spark plugs, which turned out to be originals. It seems to have better throttle response now although that may just be my imagination. That #6 hole is a bitch to get to, lol.

1- Thanks for testing the WOT-mode

2- If your dad ever talks about changing his battery in that LH-car, run for the hills! Anyone who doesn't like the battery location in our cars should change one in the Chryslers - They buried 'em behind the starboard headlights... you gotta' pull the wheel to get to 'em.

Mine wouldn't start at first with the pedal to the floor, but did on the second try. I think it's not because of a fuel cutoff, but rather that there's just too much air and it won't run that lean. Mine coughed a little and tried to start the first time I tried it but chugged out and ended up just cranking. The second time I hit the key with my foot still at the floor, it started and revved quickly (the reason I didn't want to try this in the first place!)

I didn't let it crank for more than, I'd say 5 sec at a crack. I didn't want the starter getting too hot. So that might have had something to do with it.

Well, I suppose the important thing isn't whether the WOT-trick works for everyone, but whether or not I'm RIGHT! lmao

Buried in our factory manuals, under diagnostics for an engine that cranks but won't start, is an instruction to test the TPS because "If the TP angle is more than 80 percent, the PCM may operate in clear flood mode. The PCM will not allow fuel delivery while operating in clear flood mode..."

A little research on the web also found that there is an RPM limit on "clear flood mode", which might explain some of the variability we're finding, when combined with temperature, battery condition, oil, etc.

study One last note: It appears that most of the people who can't make the clear flood mode work have re-tuned their PCM's.......

As far as I know, PCM tuning only affects selected parameters. It only re-writes the areas of the memory that have been selected by the tuning application. There are many, many portions of the PCM that tuning software can't even access, let alone reprogram.

Well that's true, and I have altered the 0 and 400 RPM areas of the VE table.
