| Just wondering if I should go with a Cam or the Rockers? What are the pros/cons for each? It seems like the Rockers would be an easier install. Should I do both? | |

| Right now, I'd be happy with a 14.5sec 1/4. I'm bone stock right now. | |

| Rockers will certainly help, easier than a cam but a cam is better in the long run. All depends on your real goals. Look at my mod list, it's good for a 14.1. I should be running faster than that, somewhere in the high 13s but I can't figure out what I need to get there. Cold weather I think... | |

| Yep. rockers will increase your lift. cam will increase lift and alter duration/valve timing. both will create too much lift and your valvetrain will just break. | |

| If you got deep pockets, you can do a cam and roller rockers of stock ratio. Some people like to slip in 1.7's or so with the cam but if you want to do that, just get the bigger cam instead. | |

| the answer is, depends on the cam.
here is an article with details on engine design and performance. Allow yourself ~20 minutes to skim it.
http://www.carbibles.com/fuel_engine_bible.html
cam design is a tradeoff. You can get better low rev or high rev performance for instance. The stock cam in the 3800s is intended to develop lots of power at relatively low revs. The 3800 in general is not designed to be a high-revving engine.
After you read the article you'll bea able to ask more specific questions.
happy reading

| the most you can gain from most cams that can be used to stock heads is about 50hp. The VS or S1x are supposedly very good cams for DD use and should to give about 35-45 hp. The XP cam can also be used on stock heads but requires a bit more work. The VS cam can be used to on completely stock valvetrain. If i decide to not install the rockers and sell them , its the cam i'd go with. | |

as stated, about 50hp max. I chose rockers like AA did because the labor required is alot less but the HP gained isn't really a whole lot less. IMHO, if/when I do a cam, Im going BIG. Big enough to require new heads that can handle the lift.

| I went with rockers, because I saw Riv run high 12s with rockers + NO2. That tells me with IC and enough boost, it's possible to make a 3800 very fast with the stock cam. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

Yeah there was a guy on regalgs.org that pulled like a 12.56 with rockers and IC , and the w-body store has a rockered GP running 12.2s or so with stock cam/trans and a gen III blower.
