| My CD player is odd. Some tracks it will play just fine, others it will skip every now and then, and some it will go nuts, make an odd noise, and eject the disk. The cassette player won't work at all. It just makes a sort of grinding noise, ejects the tape and gives an E10 error. Help? | |

I don't know where you are but you could check out United Audio on line at http://unitedradio.com/automotive/ toward bottom of page there is a repair form. In this region (finger lakes) they do repairs for GM and GM dealers. If you send radio directly to them you don't have to pay a markup to a GM dealer. You can call them about this and decide if you want to or not. By the way consider having them replace the bulbs in your radio too if any are burnt out. As long as it's open on the bench it's not tough to do. That said one thing you can try is to get a cassette cleaner/demagnetizer (your local radio shack, amazon.com, or try ebay) and run it in the cassette player a couple times--it sounds like your idler is probably dirty, and you might want to just get a flashlight and look inside the deck, problem might be obvious like a munged tape on the capstan. You can ask get a CD cleaner, they are inexpensive as well, it will get smarm off the lens of the player. Albertj

| I just tried a CD cleaner, it helped a lot but it still skips every now and again. As for running a cassette cleaner, I can't do that because the tape will not play period. | |

| Are you playing original CDs or home-burned? I have made home CDs that wouldn't play right sometimes on the factory radio. I haven't had the factory radio in a long time though. Remember that you are using a 14 year old CD player that bounces around a lot. | |

Which is why, in the same post, I told you about United. Albertj
