Are you asking how to program a remote to work with your car?

If you want to program the remote try this: 1. Turn ignition off. 2. Hook jumper in data line connector from #8 8th pin over from the left top row, to #4 forth pin over from the left top row. 3. Turn ignition on. 4. Press and hold lock and unlock buttons on transmitter, doors lock and unlock. 5. Repeat step 3 using other transmitter, if only one transmitter is being used go to step 4. 6. Disconnect jumper from dlc
That worked for my car, but I am not sure about 1995 rivs.

I am not going to pay the dealer 70 bucks for post WWII era technology that isnt made of pure platnium. This is the quote before programming, another 30 for that. So I will be programming it myself. I guess I found one on ebay and another site, so I guess my question is about programming. I see the instructions online but how exactly do you jump the pins?

I used a paper clip. I don't know if the 95 is the same. I KNOW the remote is different. I'll see if I can find the instructions and scan it for you.
Some sellers on ebay will tell you the instructions are included w/ the remote. That's how I bought mine.

Yeah, I made sure the remote was compatible, the seller did a good job of listing all numbers on the back. Instructions are included but I just wanted to make sure it really is a paper clip that is used. Thanks!

You can also use any wire that you have sitting around.

Bought 2 on Ebay last fall, for about $30? each. Stopped by local electronics store and grabbed an assortment of jumper wires, pretty cheap. I imagine a paper clip will work too.

I imagine anything metal that I can hold their to connect the two pins will work. Thanks everyone!
LOL. But you have me thinking... Are all metals conductors? (all elements in the periodic table in the metal category not including metalloids)

Yes, all metals (except for lead) conduct well in pure form, but some have coatings that prevent good contact.

Ah, finally got the remote in the mail today. I am glad, it did not take long at all, I was expecting to wait another week. It took a minute to program because it didnt work the first couple tries but it works now. Thanks everyone!
(btw to jump the pins I used some 16 guage wire my roommate had for his headlamp mod)

Um, question. How do I get the locks to stop cycling when I turn the car on. The jumper is removed but when I turn the car on the locks cycle. No big deal as everything still works but I would rather have that stop. Is it stuck in programming mode?

It's not normal on my car, but mine is a 95. Not sure how different your system is. I wouldn't think it should do that.

Wow, that is weird. Mine never cycled before. I know this because they cycle now on start up and it startles me. Guess I just brought it back to normal? But...

Don't think my locks do this. I also bought new remotes last fall and reprogrammed.

Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle Each key chain transmitter is coded to prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased through your dealer. Once you have coded your transmitter(s), the lost transmitter will not unlock your vehicle. Each vehicle can have only four transmitters matched to it.
Tools Required
J 36169-A Fused Jumper Wire
This tool can be made by purchasing a fuse older and some electrical leads, and a 20 amp fuse. Failure to use a fuseed link can cause permanent damage to your car's electronics.
Before entering the programming mode, verify possession of all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again. You may program up to 4 transmitters.
Perform the following procedure when adding news transmitters or when replacing failed transmitters:
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2. Use a J 36169-A in order to jumper the data line connector (DLC) terminal 8 to terminal 4. 3. Close all of the doors. 4. Turn ON the ignition switch. (The door will cycle to LOCK). 5. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters: * LOCK * UNLOCK (After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock.) 6. In order to program a second or extra transmitters, repeat Step 5.
Important Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative.
1. Disconnect the J 36169-A from the DLC.

Does anyone have access to the procedure needed to reprogram the keyless entry remotes for a 97 park avenue? The pin4 to pin8 grounding thing only works for 98+ cars. There seems to be a procedure that is unique to the 96-97 cars. Thanks.
