| Great cars I got a red 86 IROC that I've had since new. My brother had a black one. What year is yours? | |

| I kind of prefer black on those Camaros, but I also don't want to have to repaint everything to match what color went on the car. So triple black will be good enough for me. | |

Thanks. The thing is unbelievable. I have put gas in it 3 times since I picked it up in december. Electric bill has gone up about $30/month. I'm getting about 1000 miles per tank of gas (7-8 gallons)... last tank average was 142 mpg! I can just make it from home to drop off my kids, get to work, go to lunch and get home on 1 charge. It works perfectly for me. Some days I go further and the engine has to run, no big deal!

| 3 times since december-GOD BLESS YOU BRO! 1000 miles a tank of LPG-GOD BLESS YOU.... and how about gasoline...do you run all the time on batteries or the car switches above a certain speed? and the most important question can you charge the batteries whilst in motion?
pffff..god bless you | |

I can pick and choose. If you leave the car alone you are all battery at all speeds. If I know I'm going to use up the battery I can drive around on battery, then switch modes when I get on the highway to use the engine, then switch back to battery when I want to - it's called "Hold" mode and it's purpose is to keep the battery charged to wherever it was when I turned it on. There is also "mountain" mode, where it will aim to keep a 40% charge to have a large reserve for climbing long hills. You really can't tell the difference between battery only or gas, because it's primarily electric drive even when burning gas, although the gas engine can drive the wheels in certain situations. This odd little video explains how the drivetrain works... https://youtu.be/AX5ZwzNwTc4 Also if it is very cold out you can choose to have the engine run to provide heat so the electric driving range is farther. If you do this the engine charges the battery while it runs to generate heat. Sometimes on very cold mornings if I know I'm going to run out of battery range I'll use Hold mode to run the engine to get the car warmed up, then switch back to all battery. There is another choice to let the car do this automatically, but if I know I can stay within all electric range I'd rather manage the heat myself. Once it gets below 15F you don't have a choice anymore - the engine will run for heat. Amazing engineering.

I drove a Prius for a week in September. It forced me to realize that besides playing the MPG game, it is an utterly completely boring car. I could never drive one as my primary car. It has neat graphs and MPG things on the display while you are driving - without that you'd be completely bored to tears. What a pig. The Volt OTOH is exciting! It's quick, handles great, and you can be all EV if you have short enough trips. Two polar opposites. If you have driven/ridden in a Prius, you have to go test drive a Volt just to see how different they are! It rips off the line, and drives very precise. The throttle response is uncanny - feels like drive by wire, but then it's torque is 100%, right away. No revving, no noise, just GO!

| Here's another little gem of a site dedicated to Volt knowledge, and this link is specifically for my car. Go to their home page to see how Volts are doing in general...
