I wish I knew. I've seen 'em like 100 times in various car magazines and want. They kind of look like a product of Rays but I haven't had much luck finding them. One of these days I'm going to break down and call Nitto and ask.

So, here's my dilemma. The more I look at my car with the roof and pillars in grey primer, the more I think about painting the whole upper in silver! I really like the two-tone look with silver up top, and it would be really really easy for me to go that direction right now.

Thoughts? Pics/photoshops?

I recall somebody having a two-tone Riv with a black/silver combo a year ago or so, but I don't have any idea what to search for. If anyone can help me find pics or make photoshops I'd appreciate it.

Also, any thoughts on different shades of silver would be helpful! I have no idea where to start and I can't just say "Silver"...

Ah yes, that's the one I was thinking of. Where his is the hood, trunk and from the pinstripe up, mine would be just the roof and pillars.

So here's my car in grey primer - can somebody photoshop that grey to silver? How do I choose an exact paint color? I'm thinking about the Pontiac GP Silvermist... but not sure.

It looks pretty sharp in two-tone. I had a 83 Grand Prix LJ with an exterior colour called "Sand Silver Mettalic". It kinda changed colour depending on the lighting. It looked silver in the bright sunshine, but at dusk it looked slightly darker with beige tint too it. Considering your interior colour, it might match nicely.

If you have PS open you should have your Riv pic open in one window and the GP in another. Then take the eyedropper tool and click anywhere on the GP body to make that the color selected on the toolbar. You then should be able to do a crude color change with it.

Thanks, I am not proficient in PS at all, plus I only have it on my work computers and not at home, and I just don't have enough time at work to 'play'. The 'fun' pictures earlier in this thread were done by my brother in law.

It will take me hours to do it, whereas I know some people here can do it in minutes, that's why I'm asking.

Paint Schemes/Rim Chops - Page 9 Rpcopy

Here's what i was able to accomplish with it, it just looks fake because of the lack of reflection due to the initial primer. I suppose you could try and clone the black paint from the body onto the primered area to try to get some depth and then change the color, but it would take too long and probably not look that much better.

Edit: Here's another one

Derek,
I think a silver for the roof would look real good against the black body.
Are you considering it.?

yes I am. The roof is mostly primer right now, and I'll finish sanding/priming the other side in my next class (Monday).

I really like the grey look, it's working for me. That's why I'm hoping I can see a couple other shades tossed onto that.

Yeah, that is closer to what I'm thinking. It's hard to photoshop in a color because you don't get any idea of it's reflectiveness. I need to look at some other silver cars...

I kinda like Pontiac's "Galaxy Silver" color they used on the later grand prixs.

Also I got a comment (on another board) that it would look like a 'lazy mans two tone' job unless I included the trunk lid and hood, and wrapped the silver over the sides a little bit. Personally, I have absolutely no interest in that and think it makes a clean cut to just do the pillars and up. Should I just skip the whole idea? Will I be the laughing stock of the automotive world for doing "a lazy job"?

I like just the roof because of how weird the hood looks with a 2-tone. The tabs that go between the grille and headlights are met halfway by the other color and it doesn't look as clean as it could be.

Looking around the internet I found that most two-tone paint jobs include the hood, trunk and sometimes part of the body itself, here are a few examples...

Here is a photoshop example I made with a Riv...

Buts its really up to you Derek, I honestly think that painting just the roof looks pretty good, if you like it then do it. wink

Thanks for the samples and photoshop work! It kinda proves my point, I don't like the hood painted like that!

I guess no matter what others think I'm going ahead with my plan...
